Tools and Hardware Reviews of Conair GS4R Compact Fabric SteamerCustomer Review: Can't imagine anyone liked this thing. Summary: 1 Stars
I hate to iron and despise the cost of dry cleaning...so, I was really excited when I saw this steamer at CVS. It was reasonably priced and sounded wonderful. I was bragging about how much I loved this steamer after using it just once! It was easy and fast....then, the second time I used it---Water everywhere!
Water started to spit and spray out of the (sealed and closed) base of the steamer. I had turned the top to the locked position...but, the black rubber ring (supposed to keep the thing sealed?) was all twisted up---explaining why it wasn't working. Well, I fixed that rubber thing back into place, but it still kept spraying boiling water. SO, right now it's sitting in the corner waiting to be thrown out.
I'm very frustrated with this product, but love the way that clothes steamers work. It looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy an expensive one. But, how expensive should these things be? All they do is boil water and shoot it out of a nozzle, right?
This product is a waste of time and money...I can't believe that there were any good reviews.
Customer Review: Not Bad, Not Great, but works decently Summary: 3 Stars
This is a pretty good steamer; but it's definitely not for everyone. It's designed perfectly for someone who hates ironing, and will only iron the one shirt that they will wear for the day. It takes a few minutes to steam up however not too long especially if you don't fill the reservoir all the way to the max. However there are a few major drawbacks to this steamer. First it loses some steam after your 3rd or 4th shirt. So for those of you that will use this to steam your more than that in one use will probably be better off choosing another model. The second drawback is the hose connecter. The only way is to add more water to the reservoir is to detach the hose from the unit,. This unfortunately is a major task as it takes more than a few minutes of fumbling before you can get the hose detached from the rest of the unit. I understand why the hose needs to be secure but wish that there was another way to refill the reservoir. I did find that it was easier to detach after i finished using the steamer; however it meant that i was fumbling around with a container of very hot boiling water.
Customer Review: GREAT LITTLE STEAMER! Summary: 5 Stars
I BOUGHT THIS FABRIC STEAMER BECAUSE WE'VE RECENTLY BEEN DOING TRADE SHOWS FOR OUR BUSINESS...SOME OF THE ITEMS WE SELL ARE COTTON T-SHIRTS WITH OUR BUSINESS LOGO ON THEM. WHEN WE GOT THEM BACK TO THE SHOP, THEY WERE PRETTY WRINKLED EVEN THOUGH WE FOLDED THEM NEATLY IN OUR TRAVEL CASE. I STARTED IRONING THEM ONE BY ONE, WHICH WAS TEDIOUS & TIME CONSUMING, TO SAY THE LEAST. AND PLUS, WITH THE LOGO ON THE SHIRT, I HAD TO BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH IT WITH THE HOT IRON BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE SMEARED OFF THE LOGO. SO, I WENT ON AMAZON THAT NIGHT AND CHECKED OUT THE FABRIC STEAMERS...THIS LITTLE GEM SEEMED TO HAVE THE BEST REVIEWS & GREAT PRICE TO BOOT! WHEN I USED IT ON THE SHIRTS THE WRINKLES CAME OUT QUICKLY, I COULD STEAM OVER OUR LOGO WITH NO PROBLEMS, IT'S COMPACT AND IT REALLY DOESN'T TAKE THAT LONG TO HEAT UP IN MY OPINION. EVERY NOW AND THEN IT DOES LEAK A LITTLE WATER FROM THE CONDENSATION OF THE STEAM, BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO STRETCH OUT HOSE AND LET IT RUN BACK INTO THE CANNISTER. I LOVE IT & IT SAVES ME SO MUCH TIME AS OPPOSED TO IRONING...TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT!!!
Customer Review: Worked well Summary: 4 Stars
I just purchased this steamer and was unnecessarily hesitant about how it would work. I was impatient with the time it took for the steam to begin but once it started everything worked wonderfully. I was able to get wrinkles out very quickly that were set in by the dryer. I was able to complete numerous shirts and slacks in a much shorter time than it would take to iron them. This product contains a metal over the door clothes hanger on which to hang your items while being pressed and hang the steamer head - the only improvement I would add to this and every other steamer I've seen is to allow the overdoor clothes hanger to swivel so that you can easily rotate clothing items to the reverse side and continue to steam press instead of having to grab the hanger and reverse it's direction. I ended up buying a swivel hook from the hardware store and hanging it from the overdoor hanger - works like a charm. One other note, with steamers that use an overdoor hanger (instead of an integrated hanger pole), be sure that the door you are using is shut &/or secured in place.
Customer Review: takes the chore out of ironing Summary: 5 Stars
Very fast and so very much easier than ironing. Haven't quite gotten used to not burning myself with it when it drips, but a light shake and all the condensation from the steam will fall back down (a harder shake with have you wearing hot drops of water).
I hate ironing, and my clothes that need to be ironed accumulate for months before I drag everything out and spend 3-4 hours ironing. Now, I just hang what I want to wear on the door with the included hanger, pop the steamer handle on the door hanger as well, and turn it on while I get ready, then it's just 2-3 minutes of steaming everything, then a few minutes for them to cool, and my clothes look great! A lot better than they did when I'd iron them and then hang them in the closet for a week or two. I steam just about everything I wear now!
I chose this one because it was inexpensive, but seemed better than the portables, and honestly, it pumps out plenty of steam. I haven't tried it on any super creased jeans, but haven't found anything it couldn't flatten out so far.
