Tools and Hardware Reviews of Conair GS60 Deluxe Compact Fabric SteamerCustomer Review: Effortless and effective! Exactly what I was looking for! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my eye on this little steamer for a while. I have used a professional Jiffy steamer at work before, and I was reluctant to buy something at this pricepoint for fear that it wouldn't quite live up to my expectations. I am happy to report that this is EXACTLY what I was looking for--and at a very reasonable cost!
With this purchase, I wasn't expecting to throw away my iron. It is undeniable that if you want a crisp, pressed look, you will probably have to use an iron.
Nevertheless, I dread ironing because it is time-consuming and tedious. In the rare event that I do have some free time, ironing is not a top priority. In fact, I have lots of great clothes that I do not wear, simply because I am too tired (or lazy!) to iron them. This steamer heats up in about 5 minutes and takes only a minute or so to steam your entire outfit, which is perfect for those hectic mornings before work!
I plan on saving my iron for more formal occasions when I want to dress to impress or if I want to wear linen (I tried to steam one linen top, and it took out some of the wrinkles but just didn't do the job like an iron would). For everyday use, I have had success with this steamer for pants, denim, knits, sweaters, silky tops, and woven blouses. You simply cannot beat a steamer for use with delicate silky fabrics or knits. Anyone who has tried to iron a knit top or a lightweight sweater, only to make weird scrunched wrinkles in it will definitely appreciate what I am talking about! Plus, you don't have to worry about any of those shiny "burn" marks that an iron can sometimes leave behind.
Additionally, I line-dry most of my wardrobe to preserve the life and fit of garments, and so, they frequently wind up looking and feeling all crinkly and shriveled by the time they dry. This steamer has them looking great again in a flash!
One tip I would like to share with others is that in order to get the best results with any steamer, while your item is hanging, you should use one hand to hold the fabric taut as you use the other hand to run the steamer head across it. If you do not hold the fabric taut, it will not release the wrinkles as effectively.
