The Weller WES51 is without a doubt the absolute best soldering iron that a working man can justify spending the money on. It's the ONLY heavy duty iron you'll ever find that allows exact temp settings for under a hundred bucks. It allows you to set the temp only a few degrees above the melting point of the solder, greatly enhancing the quality of your work. And it's a heavy duty unit, so unlike the cheap lightweight ripoffs. The rugged and user friendly design reminds me of something made in the 1950s or 1960s. I've really enjoyed using this iron. My old iron was inexpensive and I got by with it, but it really wasn't suitable for my current project. I am building several prototype circuits for a ham radio project. I needed something smaller with temperature control. The WES51 is very comfortable to handle and very light. It warms up quickly and holds it's temperature. Depending on the variety of work you anticipate doing, you may need extra tips. I ordered an extra tip for really small work, but I will need a larger tip as well.Customer Review: Great Soldering Station

I have owned Weller products since the 60's w/am old handheld I purchased at Lafayette Electronics in Baton Rouge, LA. This is an upgrade from the orange station Weller makes, I got at Sears, that eventually died. This particular station really does a quick job of heating and the variable switch make it easy to change when different levels of heat are required. I am really pleased with it. My only complaint is that the cord on the wand could be about a foot longer, but that's OK. I just move it closer to my work.Customer Review: Power socket plug for suckers

I am a bit annoyed about the transaction of this product, First I wanted a Rework station, but I got a soldering station ( Although I tried to change it about two hours after ordering it, there was no one to complain to). Secondly, I was told that it would arrive in two days , but it took almost 1 month to get to me. thirdly, I ordered from Spain, and it came with American socket plug. Results: I have not been able to use it at all, after all that waiting. Boohoo for you , if you get into a similar situation.Customer Review: Walks the walk.

I'd never done any soldering before purchasing this unit so it had to be pretty trouble free as a learning experience. I wanted it primarily for making up guitar patch cables and asked the supplier of the DIY kit which of several units he recommended. He answered this one with an exclamation mark. The patch cables are done and work perfectly. I've even taken on a few other soldering projects I would ordinarily have passed on and every one's been a snap. Highly recommended!
