The lopping function of this compound tool works reasonably well, but only on relatively thin limbs--up to about 1 1/4 inches. The saw is a different matter. The blade is beautiful--a japanese pull stroke saw which is very sharp. The problem is in the telescoping pole mechanism. The action of sawing loosens the locking mechanism on the pole, no matter how hard one tries to tighten it. And one wouldn't dare use a wrench because the mechanism is plastic. So it's almost impossible to get enough torque for sawing high up when the pole is continually lengthening itself!Customer Review: does the job

Product arrived intact and on time. Easily assembled, no missing parts. Pruner cuts easily, saw is very sharp. Cuts branches easily, and has plenty of reach. I think that if the people that have had problems with this product would use the product for what it is designed for, and not try to make it into a manual chain saw, they also would be pleased. It is not for heavy duty cutting of large branches, or lopping large branches. It is for light to medium pruning of medium sized limbs. I bought this Pro model tree pruner because I was tired of borrowing one from my neighbor. Now that I have the Pro model, he will be coming to my house. The Pro Pruner can reach the limbs that other models cannot and easily take out branches and limbs with either the saw or chain drive snip. The saw has teeth that are sharpened on three sides and made for easy cutting of 4 inch limbs. And, the two foot long foam rubber cushion on the handle makes gripping very easy. The telescoping plastic locking mechanism is of the compression type and does not lock adequately during aggressive sawing strokes. The pole extends instead of completing the down sawing stroke. On the plus side the 13" blade cuts with ease and stays sharp. I've had the same blade after 4 years of use with only the spring finally giving out. Replacement parts are available locally and at on line retailers. With a better locking mechanism I would rate 5 stars.Customer Review: absolutely no problems ...

I trimmed up two large sweet gum trees (up to 6" diameter branches). saw worked like a hot knife through butter. added lock washer to blade alignment stub to prevent issues as others noted. I also added a link on the pull-rope so it can be removed when sawing (it tended to get in the way). locking mechanism works fine at all lengths on mine.
I am very pleased wih this purchase & recommend it.
