Tools and Hardware Reviews of Crawford-Lehigh LA84P-1 Large Capacity Deluxe Parallel Clothes DryerCustomer Review: Don't waste your money! Poor product. Summary: 1 Stars
This is my first review after being an Amazon customer over 15 years. I prefer to sit back and enjoy reading the reviews from others on products, and I usually "listen" to what people have to say. When I see negative reviews, I try to keep an open mind that maybe a negative review could mean the occasional lemon or two. However, I've had three -- yes, three! -- experiences with this exact same product and each one did not last past the first day of use. I would really like to try to help someone avoid dealing with the hassles of this clothes dryer.
1. Experience #1 - I bought this item from Amazon. I was so excited to start using the product that I'll admit the first catastrophe was my fault. Unfortunately, my hubby is not very quick at getting some things done, and rather than wait for him to dig the hole and cement the post holder into place underground, I opened the unit and used my heavy patio umbrella to hold up the dryer on my deck. Well, you can guess what happened. A slightly-more-than-gentle wind came up, and while I was watching, the wind caught the clothes in a nice billow and the unit completely fell over on my deck. There weren't many clothes on the dryer, and it wasn't too hard of a crash; however, when I picked it up, the aluminum arms were completely bent. When I tried to straighten them, they broke off completely. Very soft aluminum.
2. Experience #2 - I contacted Leigh Group directly regarding Experience #1. I spoke to a very nice person there, and believe it or not, they sent a completely new unit to me -- no shipping changes and no return required. I thought, hey, at least this company stands behind its product. Remember what I told you about my hubby? That dryer sat in my garage FOR A WHOLE YEAR -- still in its wrapping -- until hubby finally got around to digging that post hole. Then it came time to open it for the first time. I kid you not, the darn thing wasn't even OPEN all the way and the black plastic hinges ACTUALLY cracked then completely disengaged! What to do? We've had the dryer for a whole year, unused. I didn't even want to contact the company at that point. Just dump the thing.
3. Experience #3 - Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment. I figured third time's the charm, right? Maybe sitting in a garage for a whole year somehow deteriorated the plastic hinges. So when I went to Home Depot and I saw the product for a little over $30, I took a chance...and lost...again... I just came from outside, and I'm furious. I opened the item from its packaging, placed the umbrella in the hole, and proceeded to GENTLY open the umbrella. CRACK!!!! Two hinges are unusable.
Please don't waste your money on this product!!! It looks like Lehigh Group doesn't even support it anymore. I went to their website ([...]), and cannot find it anywhere . Buyer beware!
Description of Crawford-Lehigh LA84P-1 Large Capacity Deluxe Parallel Clothes DryerNobody will argue that a clothes dryer is a wonderful convenience, especially in winter or on rainy days. But we're hard pressed to come up with something that smells more glorious than fresh laundry dried in the sun and breeze. And free drying power can't be beat. This Lehigh line dryer is one of the best we've ever seen: It's compact, yet it has 197 feet of line drying space - enough for four loads of laundry - and the line tension is adjustable, perfect for hanging out heavy quilts. The drying height can be adjusted easily, too, which is good news if you live your life under 5'4" or so. Installation is straightforward: Dig a hole, place the sleeve, pour in a little concrete. That's it. When you're ready to hang laundry, just slip the pole into the sleeve and open it up. The drying unit is aluminum, making it light enough for anyone to lift and carry it, so bringing it inside after laundry day is no burden at all. We like the way the lines are cantilevered, getting more hanging room in smaller square footage. There's no assembly aside from setting the sleeve in the ground, either. If you're looking to save a little green and go a little green, this is a great way to do it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste What's in the Box Dryer on 84-inch pole, ground socket.
