Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet FilterCustomer Review: Improves Taste of Water Summary: 5 Stars
Positives
-Good Taste: Removed the annoying chlorine taste from the water for a fraction of the price of many other options.
-Super easy to install. It comes with all the attachments I needed. Installed in under 5 minutes.
-Small: Looks good and takes minimal space.
Possible Negatives
-The water does come out kind of slow and not quite as cold as i would like for drinking, but you can work around this by filling up jugs of water and putting them in the fridge ahead of time.
-I'm pretty sure this doesn't remove arsenic from water, but you can check you city's water report to see if there is even any in there. This is a feature you might want if you drink well water and are unsure about contaminants. Wikipedia is a great source for this info. As far as other contaminants to worry about, this filter performed well in a recent consumer reports article, and i'm just going to have to trust that.
Overall
-Cheap,easy,great tasting water. Suits most people's needs.
Customer Review: Best Faucet Filter Out There! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm very pleased with this one! There are more well known consumer brands making faucet filters that are just junk, and they crack or break after a short period of time. The Culligan is really well built, and a key factor to note here is that the coupling to the faucet is all metal -- as opposed to the plastic coupling that the other brands use. There is some really good thought that went into the design of this filter.
As for replacing the cartridge, I'd recommend just taking the whole filter off the faucet before swapping the cartridge. Even though the coupling is solid stainless steel as I mentioned earlier, but there is no need really to put a lot of strain on it or your whole faucet and risk damagin something -- if not in the coupling itself, in your more expensive faucet. Keep in mind that the cartridge gets stickier over time due to accumulated impurities. You'd need a good grip to unscrew the cartridge, so it is better to do this while the whole filter is off the faucet.
Customer Review: A snap to install. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this after reading the reviews that this was a more solid product than Pur or Brita. I have had both Pur and Brita faucet-mounted water purifiers and both were junk.
I began by unscrewing my old Pur that started springing leaks after 1.5 years. It was almost comical how everytime I rotated it down for filtered water, a small leak in the 'how much is left' window would shoot a small stream of water at me. I Threw it away. I held the new Culligan in my hands. It's not pretty, but it felt robust and it is more metal than plastic. The directions advised not to use pliers, so I screwed it on to finger tight, and turned it on. The Pur and the Brita both leaked on the first try, and it took several turns with pliers to get them mostly leak-free, so I was expecting the same out of the Culligan. I was amazed when the culligan did not leak! First try, finger tight only. I was planning on a 20-minute install, it literally took 2 minutes. The taste is fresh and clean. Bless you, Culligan man.
Customer Review: Great Buy Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this filter attached to my kitchen faucet for over a year now and have been very happy with its performance. Before using this filter, my water often had a metallic or even dirty taste, which the filter has completely removed. It has never leaked and was a snap to install. The "switch" on the filter which you pull to switch between faucet and filter is supposed to automatically reset back to faucet mode whenever you turn off the water; after a few months, mine stopped doing that. Now, when the switch is pulled out (so that water goes through the filter), it stays that way until I manually push it back in. This doesn't bother me at all, but might be inconvenient for someone else. For a while, I changed the filter every two months or so, per instructions; however, I have started using each filter for much longer than two months and have not noticed any change in the quality of the water. I would highly recommend this as a cheap, functional, and space-saving water filter.
Customer Review: Good, frm a Mstr Plmbr Summary: 5 Stars
I'm happy. It went on with no tools in about a minute, including reading.
It's very inexpensive,, but good quality, I suppose, because the refill filters are not inexpensive. Which, doesn't bother me,
because that's where you want to put your money! The basic unit is all metal, and the important parts are brass. (Good).
It's all white/chrome, but mostly white. Which makes no difference to me.
The filtered water comes slow, which is normal for a good filter.
I use it, and can actually put two glasses of water one purified, and the other not, and without looking,
can tell the difference!
The filtered water is a bit smoother over and through the mouth. No residual taste!
I use it for ice cubes too.
And, in the summer, when the water here gets too warm, i'll just filter some, and put it in the fridge!
This one is the best, I've been through the purs, and others.
Stick with this one.
