Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet Filter

Customer Review: Nowhere near "ZeroWater" Quality
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this and a ZeroWater Filtration Pitcher at the same time.

I'm in El Paso, TX where the water is hard, (410 by the ZeroWater's electronic tester; meaning "exceptionally high" in dissolved solids.)

El Paso has natural fluoridation (and added, if I recall correctly.)
Lithium and arsenic and other nasties, and this Culligan Filter may reduce them, but won't remove them! The ZeroWater eliminates them.

After installing the Culligan FM-15A and letting the water run for 10 minutes as directed, I tested the water. A 400! That is not good!
I retested an hour later and got a 409. It must not handle hard water well or something.

Water filtered through the ZeroWater ZD-013 Filtration Pitcher with Electronic Tester, Filter Included(about 15 min to filter, NOT 4 hours like someone else wrote!) The Pitcher water tested at a 000 and after 5 or 6 gallons, a 004.

The ZeroWater Filtered water has no taste; has a lightness to it.
From the tap, a sort of Rio Grande-irony taste-
With this Culligan Filter, a little better than the tap, but not much.

I should have bought extra filters for the ZeroWater Filtration Pitcher and left this Culligan filter alone.

Customer Review: the best of the three I have tried
Summary: 5 Stars

I have not had this filter for a very long time, however I can comment that it is very well built compared to the others I have tried. I went to this as a replacement for my Brita. Some have said the water flows slowly from this filter, but I have not found this to be the case. The flow from the filter is more than satisfactory. I really like the way that the diverter returns to bypass the filter when the water is turned off, this helps to minimize the possibility that hot water can be run through the filter which is said to ruin the filter element. I am not sure how to really tell when the filter element needs replacement, but I am sure I will figure it out as time goes on. my opinion, this is a very reasonable price for a 3 stage filter of this quality.
I will try to update this review after using the filter for a good period of time.

Update: I just replaced my filter for the first time (decided to do it every 2 months as recommended). The filter body is still in good condition ad it does not leak. The only issue that has cropped up is that the spring loaded diverter does not always return to the bypass position when the water is turned off. It still does so most of the time. When it does not, you just need to push on the end of it slightly. This issue happened right after I replaced the filter, so I will see what happens after the next replacement

Customer Review: A leakproof on-faucet filter that really filters
Summary: 5 Stars

I reached this on-faucet filter after trying several others. This one is terrific---the only drawback is the water flow is somewhat slow, but since I rarely need to draw more than a pint of filtered water, I can live with that. Here's why I think so highly of this filter:

The Brita, Pur, and Waterpik on-faucet filters all attached to the faucet with a threaded fitting made of soft plastic. Within a few days the result is that the fitting begins to leak with a fine spray of water each time the filter is used. Within a few weeks, if you bump the filter it will simply fall off the faucet. It turns out that soft plastic is not a good materials for a threaded, load-bearing fitting.

The Instapure F-2C Teledyne Water Pik Faucet Water Filter, Chrome does have a threaded metal fitting for the attachment and attaches securely: no leaks at all. Unfortunately, that filter removes ONLY chlorine taste and odor: it is not effective at all as a filter for lead or microorganisms.

The Culligan FM-15A Level 3 filter DOES remove lead and microorganisms, it attaches securely with a threaded metal filling, and it doesn't leak. It is a winner. The slow flow is not a problem in practice.

Customer Review: Best water filter by far!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am so sick and tired of having to buy the entire faucet system every single month. It should be the filter that needs to be change monthly or whenever but in my case it's the entire faucet system. First, my mom bought Brita. That didn't last long....really terrible. Next is the PUR brand. This is the worse than Brita. First of all, the black cap which you screw to the faucet head to connect to the filter system is made of hard plastic. This easily break though. I'll tell you why this break. The filter system accumulates inside in time making the filter heavy. Then it keeps on dropping because of the weight. You need to open it and empty it!!! now the plastic adapter breaks down because of repeated assault of dropping.

Culligan, however, the cap you screw to the faucet head is made of metal plus it is already attached to the filter head not like on PUR which is a separate piece. The filter system which houses the cartridge does not accumulate water therefore it saves you time on having it empty all the time and reduces the incidence of the filter system from dropping because of the weight.

So far we don't have any problem whatsoever with this filter. The size is small compared to other brands. [...]

Thanks for your time reading my review.

Customer Review: On our 3rd one...
Summary: 4 Stars

We started with this 9 months ago when we got tired of SMELLING the chlorine here in NC. We used it for 2 months and I HATED it because the water speed/flow was slow. We're talking 5 minutes to fill up a 2 quart pot, seriously. We changed filters after 3 months and I finally had enough of the slowness after I recommended the same filter to my Mother-in-law and saw that hers was just as fast as the normal tap. I ordered a new one.

Our 2nd one was perfect, it came out as fast as I expected the first time and was great...until about 2 months in and then it loosened up and started spraying water across the kitchen where it was supposed to butt up against the faucet.

We just ordered and received our 3rd one and it is again, perfect.

I have researched EVERY brand on here and these are by far the best rated, most affordable. If it does not work right after a while, order a new one, because it's just as affordable as getting a replacement filter.

As for WHAT it does to the water, there is a huge difference and the water tastes and smells normal. This is a product that is not perfect, but that does the job it should.

On a side note we also use the shower filter by this brand it has had no issues.
