Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet Filter

Customer Review: My tap water is drinkable again
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been putting off purchasing a water filter for some time now. I didn't want the hassle of installation, and I didn't want to mess with hunting down replacement filters. I found this filter on a list one day and decided to give it a try. Installation was a breeze once I got the aerator off of my faucet. The provided adapters worked perfectly and there are no leaks at all. The filter is fairly small compared to other filters on the market, and it doesn't get in the way of normal sink activities.

I couldn't believe how much of an impact this filter had on my water. Our area has so much chlorine in the water, that it tasted like you are drinking from a swimming pool. With the filter, I can't detect the slightest hint of chlorine, or any other tastes for that matter. My wife and I both agree that it tastes better than most bottled waters. We don't bother buying water anymore, we simply refill bottles with tap water now.

The water does come out a bit slowly, but that is to be expected. I've never run across a filter that rushes out water like a waterfall, so I can't really take away any stars for that. I've had the product for almost a couple of months now and I love it. I don't have a single complaint about it.

Customer Review: It's True -- This One DOES Work!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Brita faucet filter does an excellent job of filtering out impurities from tap water -- that is, when it manages to stay attached to the faucet. However, in my experience with it (two years and two different models), a tremendous amount of my valuable time was wasted trying to reattach the filter after it would repeatedly fall off. Although I have no direct experience with the Pur faucet filter, my understanding (drawn from other reviews) is that it suffers from the same problem.

Happily, after purchasing the CULLIGAN Faucet Filter several months ago, I can now report with confidence that it is plagued by no such similar defect. In other words, once attached, it remains firmly in place, and works every bit as effectively as rival brands. So for anyone who has tried those other brands and encountered endless frustration in endeavoring to keep them attached to the faucet, my advice is: Don't give up just yet! Try the Culligan model. It's solidly built, competitively priced, and replacement cartridges are readily available from Amazon. For me, at least, the Culligan at last put an end to the gratuitous, time-wasting burden of having to continually reattach a recalcitrant water filter.

Customer Review: Brita or Culligan = form or function???
Summary: 5 Stars

I have use the Brita 42201 On Tap Filtration System for the past three years as it was the only option in my local big box retailer. The Brita filter stopped working and I still have a spare filter cartridge. I came to Amazon to find a better deal on a new Brita filter system and was surprised to see all the negative reviews. I checked other options and settled on the Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet Filter. Here are the pros for each filter system:
Brita:
* Looks good
Culligan:
* Top rated at CR
* Faucet connection is made of steel
* Automatically shuts off the filter when you turn off the water
* Easy to clean
My only con for the Culligan is that the color is off-white with a slight pinkish hue. My faucet is white so it is noticeable.
The cons for the Brita are that it is expensive, difficult to use/clean and it is made of plastic so the durability is poor.
Overall the Culligan is definitely the better buy.
UPDATE: After a month of use I find that it doesn't always turn off after use. It is easy enough to turn off by pushing on the knob. Also it is defitiely pink in color. Still recommend this product.

Customer Review: Better than expected
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using this filter for about one month now. Generally speaking, it works very well. The flow of filtered water is on the slower side, but it just means that the water does have to be pushed through some filtration material instead of just flowing freely - along with all the contaminants. So far, no water leaked from any part of the filter assembly.
Installation is simple as long as you use common sense and maybe a small bit of silicone grease around the rubber O-rings. The filter replaces your aerator with its own, so do not loose your old aerator in case if you would ever have to remove this filtration system.
The filter assembly stays out of your way when you have to use the dish-washing sink and it is a big plus. So, you do not have to get a taller faucet to be able to start using the filter.
As far as the actual filtered water taste goes, I believe that some PUR counter top filtration systems offer somewhat better resulting taste, but they work mad slow, so it is hard to compare such different approaches to water filtration. Then again, I may be inclined to like the PUR taste better, because I have been using it longer.

Customer Review: Works well, but a few things worth mentioning
Summary: 4 Stars

I gave this four stars because it filters water really well (although our water is pretty good; we got it mainly to remove the chlorine taste). It was easy to install, and didn't take any tools. The few mild issues I have: 1) the diverter valve, which is is off by default, sometimes doesn't return to Off when the water is shut off, alhtough it seems to be getting a little better over time; 2) it has changed the non-filtered water pressure coming out of the faucet for regular (non-filtered) use -- it is much less powerful now, and not fully aerated, I assume because the diverter mechanism just physically blocks so much of the water from moving through. We're considering moving it to a non-kitchen faucet and just filling up water jugs to keep in the fridge. I would imagine this is an issue for all water filters that use a diverter.
UPDATE: we're now on our second filter (whole new thing, not just a new filter cartridge), and the second also has problems with the diverter not retunring to normal (non-filtered) mode. Only in about 10% of all uses does it work correctly. This one started out working correctly all the time, and got worse over time.
