Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan FM-15RA Level 3 Faucet Filter Replacement Cartridge

Customer Review: Worthless
Summary: 1 Stars

I love the size of this unit and the way it operates, but it does not filter the water. I tried this because the PUR units I've been using were developing leaks very soon after purchase. However, I'd rather spend money replacing PURs than purchasing an item like this that does not do a decent job filtering the water. The main thing I have to contend with is the chlorine taste and altho the filters say they remove chlorine, they do not.

I wrote to PUR advising them of the trouble I've been having with their units. They sent me a certificate for a free unit so after having this Culligan unit on for about a week I went and got my free PUR and put it on.

I also wrote to Culligan and their attitude was pretty much "tough luck." These units and the filters are much less expensive than PURs but they aren't worth their small cost for me because they don't work on chlorine.

Customer Review: Slow flow is the worst I have to say about this filter. Overall fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

This filter replacement is just fantastic. Here is how I break it down:

Cost (+)
Other filters are very expensive to replace. Brita and Pur use the Gillette model of sales. Cheap to purchase the whole unit but almost as expensive for the filters. Culligan replacement filters are really inexpensive and last longer.

Taste (+)
The taste is very good and almost has no taste at all, which I like.

Flow (-)
Admittedly the flow from this filter is not the highest. Maybe its just cleaning the water better?

I have no scientific data to compare the different filters, I am basing my 5 stars on cost, taste, ease of installation, leaking and overall happiness. For these criteria this filter is a winner.

Thanks for reading my review.

Customer Review: Works for us
Summary: 5 Stars

This filter is easy to install, with metal parts. Had this for about 6 months and the auto shut-off still works fine. We use it every day for about a gallon of drinking and cooking water, and I just put in a refill filter when the flow of the first one got pretty slow. The water from the first filter was still clear and fresh. The refill does leak a little around the filter cartridge, a drop out the back every 5 seconds when you use it, and removing the cartridge required some pliers to break it free. It appears to filter fine, although I have no clue how scientifically pure the filtered water is compared to straight tap. The water doesn't have any smell, and the pitcher we use to hold the water until use, is still clean after 6 months holding the filtered water.

Customer Review: I took it apart
Summary: 2 Stars

I took apart the Culligan and I can imagine how it filters water. It's a solid block of charcoal (so 1 star for that) poorly glued to the top (I was able to pull it off with moderate amount of tugging) but with small gaps at the bottom which sorta explains the low water pressure and explains another person's review why his PPM test was the same with and without the filter (265 versus 265). And the only reason I took it apart was because I used this Culligan to filter water for my tea kettle and I noticed that tea kettle had become chalky white which I guess is the residual chlorine from the water which got me thinking does this thing even work? So, I took it apart and the rest is history.

I highly suggest you take yours apart and see for yourself.

Customer Review: My Autoship Faucet filter
Summary: 5 Stars

I have no experience with the Pur system, but I did switch to this Culligan faucet filter from Brita. I had switched after my 3rd Brita mount had broken. My Culligan filter does a nice job, the water taste is definitely improved. I do want to remind people that you will not get the higher level of filtering you do with the slower pitcher filters...but this is very convenient. My pets and plants also get the benefits of fewer toxins in their water. They have not mentioned if they prefer the taste.
Replacing the filter just takes a couple of simple twists. I do miss the indicator light on my Brita, but I have put my Culligan filters on auto ship to make it easy to remember when I need to pop the new one in.
