Tools and Hardware Reviews of Culligan WSH-C125 Wall-Mount 10,000 Gallon Capacity Filtered Showerhead, Chrome FinishCustomer Review: Poor Design, No Height Adjustment, etc. Summary: 2 Stars
I was unfortunately quite disappointed with this Culligan WSH-C125 Filtered Showerhead. It is simply a poor design. I bought it because, like most, I found it to be a reasonable price and had modest expectations. But the showerhead simply does not function properly.
After just taking the showerhead out of the box I could feel it was of flimsy construction. The rubber face and rear connector seem solid, but the main body is of chrome-painted plastic. Once I installed the unit I immediately knew it would have to be returned. The showerhead has no height adjustment! It can be pivoted up, but cannot be fixed in any position except down. You see the design stores the heavy filter inside of the plastic housing overweighting the whole thing. The head has no lock ring to set its position. This makes the head unusable to me as it would only allow me to shower standing right up against the wall where my shower mounts :/
I did test the unit before sending it back. The spray settings have no control over strength of flow which seems to be another standard feature that has been left out. I did not smell any chlorine when running it. However (I did know when purchasing) it does not filter out other irritants like calcium and heavy metals. The tap water here in SoCal is very poor. In the end my poor experience with this unit prompted me to buy the high end Aquasana AQ-4100 Deluxe Shower Water Filter System with Adjustable Showerhead. I paid $67.99 for it with Amazon Free Shipping. And the thing rocks! The filter gets out all the bad stuff and the showerhead has all the features of a quality product. (((: Peace, Ben
Customer Review: well worth the $30 Summary: 5 Stars
I was saving up to buy the Aquasana showerhead filter, trying to rationalize spending $80 on a product just because our water smells a little funky. I researched dillegently about all of my shower-filter options, read all the Amazon and other sites reviews I could find, and while there was a lot of hype about Aquasana, the real user reviews made me question it's durability, value, and also, it wasn't very pretty.
Then I discovered this Culligan shower filter. It's a little bigger than my regular showerhead, but that's more the massage settings than the filtration unit. It's shiny chrome and looks really nice in my shower. It installed in about 3 minutes and has worked beautifully for the last 2 months.
My main reason for buying this was bad smelling water. This filter got rid of all the odors in our tap water (the metallic tap water smell and the super nasty hydrogen sulfide/rotten egg smell that only got worse the hotter the water was). But it's also improved my skin and hair condition. All this time I had thought I had dry skin and damaged hair. But not anymore. I never would have thought to blame the water!
The 5 massage settings are nice, but I find I like the regular spray shower setting. I was worried that a filter may impact my water pressure, but it actually seems to have improved. The highest-pressure setting on this is almost too much pressure, but it might be good for a theraputic massage.
This was a fabulous find for only ~$30. The quality of the showerhead alone would be worth that, even without the added bonus of filtering out all the yucky stuff.
Customer Review: Floppy & Gushy Summary: 3 Stars
I'm bummed, I really wanted this to work. Filtration, lower flow, NSF certified, culligan, and a great price!
Upon receipt, my beau installed it right quick. He reported that no matter how well it's tightened, it just flops downward. He's installed about seven showerheads for me (I'm searching for shower nirvana), I generally trust his skills in this area. I thought that maybe it'd work better with some water running through it. While in the shower, I tried to adjust it; sometimes, it'd stay, but not every time. I've now read about this same issue on another review and I'm questioning the build quality and endurance of the showerhead.
Also, I find that the flow is too generous. I'm one of those weird people who like a single, 1.5gpm flow. This is a 2.5 gpm head (the generally acceptable water-saving level). The settings are so-so to adjust. Not easy, not difficult. I haven't noticed any difference in water hardness or odor, but I also have been using my other shower more, now. I realize that this is a subjective preference and therefore, it did not affect my rating.
So, I think I'll keep searching until I find another 1.5gpm, that doesn't flop downward, and has a hose. I have one in my other shower, and I can always add a filter to something like that.
I rely on reviews here at Amazon to help me make informed buying choices. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. If you voted this as helpful, I Thank You! :)
Customer Review: Good Shower Head Summary: 4 Stars
I read several of the reviews talking about shower pressure. When I first installed the showerhead I got teriffic pressure, but it dwindled. I figured it was because the filter, which is supposed to catch stuff, was probably getting full and was getting clogged and slowing down the water. I'm assuming this is correct because the pressure increased significantly when I installed a new filter. The box says to change every six months, which I did. My pressure dropped after about a month. I'm not sure if that says something about my water or that the filter just isn't great.
When the pressure is good, the massage setting is great. It makes noise, but it feels good. When the pressure is lower, which, by the way, is not that low, the regular setting is much better, and gives a good wide spray.
Overall, I liked the showerhead, but I'm wondering if the filters should be changed more often, or if they need to improve on the quality of the filter.
Oh, I also wanted to comment on someone's review about hard water. I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that water filters, in general, don't take care of hard water. For hard water you'll need a water softener. That applies to all filters. I'm not aware of any that take care of hard water. But, as I said, I'm not an expert.
Enjoy.
Customer Review: Pleasantly Surprised! Summary: 5 Stars
We live in the country and have a well. Our water softener works hard but we still end up with smelly and overly hard water. We were in the market for a new showerhead and I stumbled on this. I have to say I wasnt expecting much, boy, was I in for a shock!
Installation was easy, took longer to take the old one off than it did to assemble this and mount it. The 2nd I stepped in the shower for the first time I could tell the difference immediately. Instead of the odorous water we had before we now have neutral smell. We feel so much cleaner, the water leaves our skin feeling clean and with the sheen that all good water should leave behind and I dont go around all day wondering if I smell like sulfur! As I stated before we have very hard water and this thing acts like its nothing. It will be interesting to see how long the filter that you put in this lasts with the quality of our water, I will try to update when we change filters...but at $10 a filter it is well worth it.
This has impressed us so much we are going to be calling Culligan to come and check our water and try their water softeners. If this little thing can make this much difference my hope is that we can have good water everywhere, instead of just in the shower!
