April, 2011. Thank you to Amazon and to all of the reviewers. We had ants, mostly in the kitchen along one wall, and in the powder room. We had a pest control guy last year; he charged about $90. When the ants came back this year we did research (mostly on Amazon) on DIY solutions.
We ordered the Combat product from Amazon, and when it arrived we put small globs of it, spaced out on the floor. We put some on masking tape and some directly on the ceramic tile. Within a few hours there were many, many ants surrounding the globs of gel. (It was disgusting but we knew to let them do their thing.) By the next day, there were fewer ants, and within 2 days, no sign of any live ants, but several dead ones. It's been a couple of weeks now. This seems to have worked much better than the stuff the pest control guy used last year.
The idea of the Combat product, as other reviewers have written, is that it doesn't kill right away - the ants carry it back to the nest for others to eat, so it kills more ants.
Some other reviewers wrote that, if "your" ants don't go for this product, try placing the gel on some peanut butter, or some honey. You could put the peanut butter or honey on strips of masking tape, then place some of the gel on that. In our case, "our" ants went for the gel as it is, but if that doesn't work for you, try adding the gel to peanut butter or honey.
It seems that battling ants and putting down the gel is something that has to be done periodically - it's a process. I just ordered more from Amazon. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the pest control guy!

This has been the most effective ant eliminator I've ever tried. We had these black ants invading our high rise condo unit. Sprays and other baits failed to foil them. They kept marching in and getting into everything.
We bought this syringe tube of Combat Ant Killing Gel containing Fipronil as the active ingredient (DO NOT BUY ANYTHING BUT A PRODUCT CONTAINING FIPRONIL). It took some getting used to how much pressure to apply to the syringe to dispense the ant gel. My first attempts resulted in large glops. Over a couple of days I got the hang of it. The best way is to create a feeder area with a couple of dozen dots so that ants can feed in large packs before taking them back to the nest. Fipronil is at worst a slow acting nerve poison that allows ants to feed, then harbor them back to the colony where it can be shared among other colony members. As we were more than 20 floors high perhaps it took 5 days to stop the ants instead of a day or two (long trip back to the nest). Voila! The ants stopped coming and it has been months since the invasion. I have only used but one tenth of the tube so this effective ant treatment program will last me years!
I tried this at a friend's home where they had a large infestation. So we used a lot more product, enough for hundreds to swarm and feed. Two days later the ants were gone! I'm impressed.
Remember: only Combat products with Fipronil work this good.

Combat Ant Kill Gel is a great product as long as you use it with care. The gel needs care in application so that it does not come into contact with surfaces that can be penetrated by the gel (staining) and so that it is out of reach of children and pets. You can always apply it into cracks, on pieces of small scrap paper or even on the back of masking tape to be removed at a later date.
Place the gel near cracks where ants are located and along ant trails. The ants can take up to 24 hours to find the gel and, once they do, they will swarm to eat as much as they can. The poison is then brought back to the ant colony and shared - killing the source of your ant troubles. (Much better than the never ending cycle of spot killing like using Raid.)
ISSUE: Amazon currently sells this product through Polsteins Home & Beyond, a non-Amazon Prime seller. The cost of the product through them is currently $4.99 (list price) and Polsteins Home & Beyond ships it for $6.11. Yes, that is a 100% mark-up for the original product price followed by shipping the product for another 122% more. Not criminal...just very, very unethical.
I would highly recommend avoiding buying this product through Polsteins Home & Beyond due to this type of predatory pricing behavior. You can find companies that have a good shipping policy and competitive prices through a simple "Combat Ant Kill Gel" search on the web.

I placed the gel in the same place I always see ants. This day I only saw about ten marching up the house where they always come in. Within ten minutes of placing the gel the whole wall became covered in ants, hundreds more of them came for the feast. It was like thanksgiving for them, feasting on the gel. I watched with joy knowing it was thier "last supper".
Next day I saw about 20, most dead or acting "drunk". The few that were OK were busy running toward thier "feast" (the gel). Day after that, 36 hours later, nothing but dead ants. Two weeks later, not one dam ant in my house and none seen climbing the wall.
Yes, I was a bit tired of the ants, the smelly sprays, and those boring bate stations (which I have used in past with some results).
Why WAIT for results? I am amazed that this stuff was so irresistable for them. This stuff is like ant candy, and we all know how ants swarm around a piece of candy. 24-36 hours wipes out the entire colony. I am sure one day they will return, I bought another tube just to keep as a spare. I hate to admit, I enjoyed the "show", and look forward to the next one.
No odor, no mess, easy & way more effective then any other product I have ever bought.

I'm looking on Amazon because I can't find this in stores anymore. Glad to find it here.
It works like nothing else. Every year we'd get 3 kinds of ant invasions- small red, small black and large black. I'd spend weeks of frustration fighting them. Heard about this stuff and now I don't even care if ants appear because it's soooo easy to get rid of them in one day with this gel. The trick is you have to put it exactly where the ants are walking or they won't find it. I didn't know before that scout ants leave a trail that the savenger ants then follow. It's amazing to watch if you have the time. You have to put the gel on this trail. Of course, it's very poisonous so you also have to use only a tiny bit at a time and pick a place where NO ONE will touch it. I clear off the kitchen counter, put a spot EXACTLY where I've seen an ant, then use a washable marker to put a huge arrow and write "POISON!". If I have to put it on the floor,I put a heavy object over it and leave a sign on top. You have to be patient and don't kill the scavenger ants when they appear. They'll eat it for a few hours-add more if you need to- then you'll never see that type of ant again 'til next year's invasion.
