Customer Review: totally awesome, but be careful when new
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful stone. Aggressive and stays flat.
Plus, a solid steel plate, unlike a thinner steel plate with holes attached on a plastic plate, means that you don't have to worry about the holes catching your narrowest chisel (I have 1/8 inch one).
One thing to note:
At first I was disappointed by the unevenness of the stone like one of other reviewers.
I thought that the only use for this was as a super rough stone before moving to my coarse water stone, and fixed two knives and a chisel with some nick in the blade.
After this, I've found that the unevenness was somehow gone and it became milder. It's still pretty aggressive, but I don't get deeper than normal scratches from any spots any more, and I'm already semi-retiring my coarse water stone.
Maybe sharp-but-brittle diamond corners wear out, maybe the higher/larger diamonds are eventually embedded into the steel plate deeper by the tool blades, I really have no idea, but anyway. And after this initial "break-in" period I don't think the stone has been losing the aggressiveness any more.
I was so happy with it that I also ordered extra-coarse one.
