This fine/extra fine whetstone is all that it promises & more. I bought it because of it's large size to accomodate my kitchen knife collection. This whetstone gives me a razor's edge, but I would suggest it's use with a couple of other products:
1. The duosharp coarse/extra course whetstone
2. The DMT whetstone duobase to hold the whetstone securely during use
3. A mousetrap hone, because sharpening is NOT the same as honing.

You have to love it when you invest in one item that you randomly pick, and it turns out to be the last one you will ever need to buy.
I did a bit of research prior to buying - and it turned out to be the best purchase for the kitchen, after the food processor.
Now - some five plus years later - it still works like a charm, and all of my expensive knives are in topnotch conditions, thanks to this sharpening stone!

DMT sharpeners are the best on the market! Although a little pricey, the quality is unmatched in my opinion. Why would I want to keep replacing a lower priced model when I can buy DMT and know that it will last me years and years. I sharpen my kitchen knives and pruners- saves me from havng to go out and buy new ones. My husband sharpens his pocket knives, chisels, and lawn mover blades. Not much to say about a sharpening stone except that this is one of those tools that you don't want to scrimp on. The DMT is well made and makes short work of chisels and plane blades, if I ever had to buy another stone, this would be it. The large surface is great for sharpening hand plane blades, and smaller blades as well. You won't be sad that you spent the extra for the larger surface. The dual grit works well. I purchased all 4 grits, (two stones) and sharpen all my hand plane blades, chisels, and router bits with these.
