I should have taken better note of other reviewers' complaints. This strainer will, indeed, prevent absolutely everything from entering your drain: hair, soap, shampoo, and water. I just tossed mine, after a few months of use, when it started discoloring. If, however, you're looking to protect your drain while soaking your feet in slightly used bathroom products, then this is your huckleberry.Customer Review: It works

I've had this over a year. I have a lot of hair that sheds tons in the shower, and this prevents it from going down the drain. I only wish the holes were slightly bigger because the suds from my soap don't want to go through, so I have take it out several times and rinse it. But my drain doesn't get blocked nearly so often, which was the reason I bought it, so still 4 starts.Customer Review: Does the job, clean every few days.

This strainer fits perfectly in our tub drain. It catches everything (and that is it's job). It does require cleaning every few days. If you wait too long to clean it the water will not be able to run through it. I've found that using a toothbrush to clean it helps. It serves the purpose. But, due to the very small holes in the mesh strainer, it gets dirty in a day or 2 and needs cleaning. With daily or alternate day cleaning, it is good. If not ready to clean that regularly, then don't buy this as it just clogs.

i used to have one of these in another apartment and left it simply because...who brings a bath strainer with them? i bought a plastic one that looked good and thought it'd get the job done. 2 visits from the plumber later, it did NOTHING to stop hair and completely backed up the drain. go steel mesh, it's worth it.
