Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dap 18324 Seal 'N Peel Removable Caulk, 10.1-Ounce

Customer Review: Super removable weatherstrip
Summary: 5 Stars

Here is a great product.. Don't waste time with the rope type which falls off in a month or so.. this seals completely and is super easy to remove..
It doesn't damage woodwork or the frame. i'm getting ready to do it now just before the first freeze in Wisconsin.. No more drafts around doors or windows!! no other product is as good. However get your weatherstip in shape also.

Thanks Amazon for the opportunity to rate these. Hope this helps someone. Fumes were not bad at all IMHO!!

I recommend a power caulk gun to put this in place. My hand got real tired putting this on the windows. I got a pneumatic caulk gun, but they make electric, battery etc.

It really made install easy! the hand method works but you will have a sore hand at the end of the day.

Customer Review: Toxic odor is so bad it negates usefulness of product
Summary: 1 Stars

I used 1-1/2 tubes of this caulk in my basement and it made my entire 2 story house smell so terrible that I had to evacuate my family. I have used other weatherproofing products over the years and I have never encountered one with such a toxic byproduct. I thought for a bit I was going to have to take my family to the hospital. I had the basement exterior door open during installation, but obviously had to close it once night came. People who buy this are going to use it when it is cold outside. Not when it is 60 out and we can sleep with all the windows open in the house. The ability to open the windows totally negates the use of this product.

There are many other solutions that are safer for your families health and are just as effective. I would recommend avoiding this product at all costs. I will never use it again or recommend it to friends or family whose health I cared about.

Customer Review: The fumes are noxious!
Summary: 3 Stars

I used this temporary caulk on my drafty aluminum windows. It goes on smoothly, and any that you get on your hands is easily washed off. It seems to do a pretty good job keeping out the bulk of the drafts. It doesn't smell bad when you are applying it, however, the next 48 hours are terrible. The fumes are overpowering and obnoxious. Initially it stuck well to the aluminum window frames, however, as time passed it seemed to be coming off the windows. None of it has fallen off, but it seems to have come up in some places. I have not removed it yet so I cannot comment on removal yet.

04/01/09 Update: I just started removing the caulking from the window and it comes up easily and leaves no residue.

All in all... Apply it in sessions over a few weeks and make sure there is plenty of ventilation.

Customer Review: Great Seasonal Fix For Drafts
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product to stop drafts yet it still lets you open your windows when warm weather returns.

My condo faces a lakeshore and whenever the wind would get up over 20 mph, the windows would howl like something from an old horror movie. Our condo complex will be replacing these windows in the next year or two so, until then, this has proven a great way to stop the drafts and noise while still allowing me to easily remove the product in the summer so I can open the windows.

The only downside to Seal 'n Peel is the odor when you first apply it. It's much like airplane glue. Apply the product on the outside if you can. If not, do it on a day when you can leave a couple of doors open for most of the day.

Shipping from BIC was fast. My order arrived in three days.

Customer Review: Seals great, but fumes are horrible
Summary: 2 Stars

The only reason I did not give this product a 1 star is because the product does actually seal windows wonderfully, but the fumes are horrible. Even 12 hours after application fumes are still present. Any savings by sealing your windows will be lost by the amount of time your unsealed doors/windows need to be open to let out the fumes. If you think about it the product's instructions present a perfect oxy moron. You need to apply in a well ventilated area yet you are sealing the very windows that would allow for ventilation. It seems that the manufacturer could have developed the product a little further to eliminate the fumes and thus the need to open up your whole house for hours to get rid of them. I recommend using another product or method to seal your windows.
