Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dap 18324 Seal 'N Peel Removable Caulk, 10.1-Ounce

Customer Review: Sort of stinks like Rubber Cement
Summary: 5 Stars

Dap Seal 'n Peel Caulk works like a charm! As most reviews claim it stinks. All I could think in my head while I was using this stuff was Rubber Cement! It stinks like rubber cement, and looks like rubber cement. Of course it probably is just rubber cement with more bulk and less sticky. But it really does work well and is way easier to put together than those blasted foam weather seals. At 5 bucks a pop I was leery too, but it was save you that much in 1 winter with today's utility prices. It will cover at least 4 windows.. so doing the math that's a $1.25 per window.. you can't even put that plastic wrap junk on your window for that cheap. Buy it now, you will not regret it.

Customer Review: Effective but alas the fumes
Summary: 3 Stars

As many of the other reviewers had said the fumes are killer. The caulk is extremely effective, but it takes a good week or two for the fumes to disapate. I was a little concerned about my poor cats being subjected to the fumes 24/7. Once the fumes fade, it's fine. Removal of the calk in the spring if fairly easy and mess free. We have really terrible windows, so some of the loose paint did come off with the calk, but I was expecting that to happen. All in all, I will probably use again next winter, but I won't do all the windows at once. I highly suggest leaving one or two windows unsealed while the others are curing so that you can have access to fresh air.

Customer Review: Great but watch out for fumes
Summary: 4 Stars

I live in an apartment where the windows and doorwall leak terribly. Stapling plastic to the window trim is not a viable option because the apartment owner will charge me for having to replace or fix the window trim. I put this around the window and doorwall last night to seal the leaks. I immediately felt a difference in the temperature of the room and no more drafts. And it peels off and cleans up very easily. The only thing you have to be careful of is the fumes it leaves behind. I suggest you start with the biggest windows and leave the others open to air out the fumes as you seal up the remaining windows. Try to leave the window closest to a door last.

Customer Review: Favorite removable sealer
Summary: 4 Stars

I live in Buffalo and own an uninsulated big house built in the 1880's with 87 inch tall drafty wood windows. The plastic sheet kits don't fit and I need a product that can seal the windows quickly for the winter. Last year the big box stores stopped carrying this brand and I tried another. It was like I hot-glued my windows shut! I had to pry it off with sharp tools. The Dap brand pulls right off easily. It dries to a consistancy like the glue dots that seal up envelopes. Like everyone says, it has a strong odor for about 24 hours (smells like plastic model cement). Use it on a warm autumn day so you can leave a door open while it dries.

Customer Review: Works great, but strong smell when drying
Summary: 4 Stars

Bottom line, this product works as advertised. It seals, and comes off without any marring of the window. I've used it on varnished wood sash windows.

One big positive: its thick enough out of the tube to stay in place when sealing the side and tops of window frames. Some similar products I've used before would run a bit before drying and sticking.

One big negative: really strong chemical smell as it dries. I would strongly recommend using it when everyone can leave the house for at least a couple hours afterwords. (Once it dries I can't smell anything.)
