Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dimplex CS1205 Compact Electric StoveCustomer Review: Loving It Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned it for a week and anxiously awaited a cold morning to try it out which was today. When I first had it set up I flipped the flames-only switch and went around with a dumb grin on my face for the rest of the evening over how realistic they looked. It's like a toy for grownups - pure fun!! I immediately knew I needed to get to the Dollar General store to buy one of the small oval braided rugs that I'd been eying. I bought one and placed it on the floor in front of my stove to complete the scene. This morning the living area of my home was around 60 degrees so I put the flames on and then the low heat on and things began to feel better within about ten minutes. I sipped my tea seated on my padded click-clack floor chair with my legs stretched out towards the stove and basked in the silent gentle flow of warm air. I listened to NPR and stared at the flames and totally enjoyed myself. I saw one of these little stoves in a home improvement store about ten years ago and I was fascinated by it as were two other customers standing nearby. Now I own one and am delighted with it. I know I could have bought a good space heater for less but the pleasure that this heater gives me is well worth the extra dollars spent.
Customer Review: Not Bad for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this fireplace for my elderly mother who is always cold. It is a nice fireplace for the money. It heats a 22 X 22' room quite easily. My son has been using this item where there is no heat in his room. In the middle of the night he has to shut it off as it warms the room too much. I am not sure my mother can use this because you can't shut the flames off at night and it might not be easy for her to sleep with the glow. Another not so great feature is the on, low, high switches. They are located way down on the bottom and near the back leg. It may not be easy for her turn it off and on late at night, so for now, my son will use it until we figure out if it is worth giving it to her.
It is quiet and heats nicely and if you are not elderly, there should be no problem sleeping with some light and turning it on and off. Would be nice to have a thermostat, an easy on & off switch and flame on/off switch. A remote would be a great idea to use on this one.
This fireplace is used in upstate NY where our temperatures have dropped into the low 20's already and it has kept the room very warm. It is a good value for the money.
Customer Review: Been a good heater so far... Summary: 4 Stars
This has been a good heater so far with a few little things I wanted to mention. 1st the door did not open but maybe that is this paricular makes feature, 2nd the light bulb burned out on the second night I used it - could anyone share how long their light bulb lasted? (also it is rather time consuming to unscrew 5 screws to replace it, 20w) My final complaint is that it does not have a setting that will automatically make it go on and off and on again.
I am compairing this with a faux fireplace I got second hand for $10.00 at a garage sale. I later found out was from 1972 but it still worked and had that feature of heat control. But it does cost a small fortune to run so the final test will be in the electric bill.
I will say on the + side it heats up a room very quickly and is very cute. I love having that cheery little fire light going for a night light. Don't even bother with those space oil heaters anymore - one of these will do the job of three of those and to me this seems much safer (take it from someone who got shocked last winter!)
So overall, good to great heater, could be better.
Customer Review: What I expected Summary: 5 Stars
I read all the reviews and this little electric stove is what I expected. I'm not trying to replace my central heat, I wanted something to put by my desk in my home office on cold morning that would take the chill off ....by afternoon my central air will be turning on and it seems such a waste to heat the entire house just to cool it down later. I've always been afraid of house fires from typical space heaters and this seems to be much safer. I've had it on low this morning and no place is too hot to touch. It puts out so much heat on low that I haven't tried high. I am now looking at the Dimplex fireplace inserts. I have a wood fireplace that I haven't used in about 5 years, just got tired of cleaning up the ashes, bringing in wood after over 20 years of wood fires. I live in the Deep South. I bought an 18 x 18 inch ceramic tile to sit mine on just to be safe. I wish it had a three prong plug , I read two reviews about the cord/plug getting hot so I watch my plug in closely, no problems so far using the low heat setting, it hasn't been cold enough to use the high heat.
Customer Review: The next best thing to the real fireplace! Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE real fireplaces, unfortunately there is none in my house. The house faces north, and even though the climate is pretty mild, it gets quite cold here on some winter days.
I am generally not fond of anything fake, and find the very concept of ANY imitation simply tacky... however, since in this case, the 'real thing' is not an option, I had to make an exception to the rule.
Thankfully, this little fake fireplace is surprisingly impressive, and I have been very happy with it. It looks and feels amazingly real and cozy, and it generates right amount of heat (I keep it on high setting).
I got two units, one for bedroom, and one for living room, and could not live without them in the winter... as a matter of fact, I probably use them more, than I do the central heating...
The first unit is more than three years old, and still going strong. The only thing I had to do for maintenance was replacing a bulb, which took all of five minutes.
Would buy another one in a heartbeat, and definitely recommend very highly!
