Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dorcy 41-4750 180 Lumen High Flux LED Cyber Light Flashlight with BatteriesCustomer Review: Great balance of spot and flood light capabilities Summary: 5 Stars
Others have pointed out how bright this is so I wanted to add a comment about why I like it better than three other high intensity LED flashlights I own, and almost as much as the extremely versatile Black and Decker 130 lumen spotlight I found at the local giant W store.
Both spotlights, the B&D and the Dorcy 41-4296 160 Lumen LED Spotlight with Batteries use four C-cell sized batteries and last longer than this light. I also recently bought a Coleman brand model and the Rayovac RNT3AAA-B Roughneck 200 Lumen Metal Flashlight with Batteries and Holster.
The two spotlights illuminate a person at a distance of about 450 feet and this Dorcy 41-4750 will do so to about 300 feet, and it has very bright illumination of objects out to about 200 feet. But this model has an intense center beam that is at least three times as wide as the Dorcy spotlight and a little bigger than the B&D. It also has more useful spill light around the center beam than the two spotlights. It is much brighter than the Rayovac and a little brighter than the Coleman light. It has the best ergonomics of the bunch, with easily found and used on/off button, light weight, bright yellow and square shape, and it says it is rated to survive drops up to 8 feet. Lastly, it cost less than all the others except the Black and Decker spotlight.
Some negatives are that it is rated at five hours on a set of AA batteries and the C-cell spotlights run over 20 hours on the brightest setting (the B&D runs 78 hours on its 40 lumen setting which is great for extended power outages), and despite the drop rating, the plastic case does seem flimsier than the casing on the other four lights and the on/off button has a very squishy feeling. Water proofing would be the icing on the cake if Dorcy decides to tinker with this winning formula.
For most people this smaller Dorcy is going to be a great general purpose light to have around the home. The two spotlights I own are brighter if you need to reach farther than this one. I rate this one and the B&D both five stars. I live on a farm and the B&D spotlight is more versatile in that setting so, even though it is constructed of an ugly thick orange plastic, that is the one I bought more of for use on my property. But this smaller Dorcy is great for a car or in home use and is much lighter and less bulky than the B&D.
