Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dramm 12704 Revolver 9-Pattern Premium Garden Hose Nozzle, GreenCustomer Review: Missed it by THAT much! Summary: 3 Stars
We've been using $1.99 garden hose nozzles for years here in the Florida Keys. As long as we slap a little axle grease on the threads (so we can remove the nozzles easily later on), they work great for a year or so before the salt air corrodes the spay adjustment beyond redemption, and then we screw them off, throw them away, and start over. This year however, I decided to go bigger and better. This was one of three different "high-dollar" nozzles I decided to try, and I'll be pasting the same review on all three brands/models. In the end, they all worked great; but, unlike the $1.99 nozzles, they didn't work great right out of the box. Instead, all three leaked all over my lap and feet. (I water the three garden areas in my wheelchair.) Two of the hoses are good Home Depot models and the third is Sear's best. All the connection ends are undamaged, but it wasn't until I replaced the "tabbed" synthetic washers with good rubber replacements and wrapped the hose threads with several layers of Teflon plumber's tape that the leaking stopped. All three function very well now, but this certainly blows my wife's theory about "you get what you pay for."
Customer Review: Good product Summary: 4 Stars
I bought one of these Dramm nozzles 3 or 4 years ago at a nursery. Recently it started leaking so I have to replace it, but I must say, it's a very good product overall. The various nozzle options produce a variety of useful sprays. The one for "soaker" puts out a nice, soft, aerated spray that's ideal for watering plants in pots without blasting the dirt around. The "jet" is a really strong blast that's good for cleaning things.
Last weekend I picked up a similar replacement nozzle made by Gilmour at Lowe's. It's a nice looking unit with the same settings as the Dramm, so I figured, why not? When I got it home and put it on the hose, I was shocked at how poorly its spray options compared to the Dramm. The "soaker" stream is much too vigorous (useless for watering potted plants), while the "jet" is wimpy compared to my old Dramm. The only setting on the Gilmour that's the least bit useful is "mist", so I'm returning it to the store and getting another Dramm from Amazon. I had figured if two products from different companies looked about the same and had the same features, they'd perform comparably. I figured wrong.
Customer Review: Junk Summary: 1 Stars
These are supposed to last for years. Ours lasted TWO MONTHS-just long enough to be outside of amazon's return timeframe. Three of the four I bought leak so badly I am throwing them out.(And two of them arrived broken, so that really means 5/6 didn't last one summer.) I faithfully drain the water out of them after each use, so it can't be excess pressure. They only reason the 4th one doesn't leak is because I've only used it twice.
They leak horribly:about 75% of the water leaks out of the sides, leaving the remaining 25% to dribble out of whatever the dial is set to. No mist, no jet, no soaker. Just a gush of water getting all over my hand and nothing on my plants.
An email to the company went unanswered.
UPDATE: Dramm's Customer Service rep finally answered us. We emailed pictures of the dripping nozzles and the company- NOT amazon- replaced them all. Let's see how long these last...
Customer Review: fair quality - but good customer service. Summary: 3 Stars
it looks good, but inside you will find much cheap plastic. Mine broke after only a few uses. NOT recommended.
EDIT: Dramm called me within hours after I emailed them. The customer service is very good. They promised a free replacement after the receive the broken one from me.
I suppose if you buy it, you have to be careful with it.
Customer Review: OK for price Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased two of these nozzles from Amazon because I had previously purchased one from a retail store for a couple of dollars more and liked the unit. Unfortunately the outside protective rubber on the rotating section of one of the units I received from Amazon was defective and is splitting open. The unit still functions but is cosmetically flawed.
