Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duck Brand 1299529 Indoor 5-Window Shrink Film Kit, 62-by-210-Inch

Customer Review: a little bit of work but well worth it
Summary: 5 Stars

i am a cheapskate. I saw the "other" 5-window kits for (at least) twice the cost of this one, and all i had to do to save $10 was cut the film myself!
Yes this kit takes a little more work and planning, but really, you're trying to save money in the first place so why pay twice the cost for pre-cut?
Another advantage to cutting it myself is that not all the windows in my house are 3x5's, the windows upstairs are bigger, the windows downstairs are smaller. Less product waste meant that i was also able to insulate the skinny windows on the sides of my door as well.
This is the second year I have used this exact product and it worked GREAT last year, i expect it will work just as well this year.
I have had no problems with the tape, it stuck to the film and window frame just fine (make sure the window frame is the proper temp to begin with, CANNOT be cold) and also run the hairdryer and your thumb (or whatever) over the tape AFTER sticking the film to it to give it better adhesion. They provide PLENTY of tape, even if you do screw up. The tape held firm all winter and most of the spring, and it peeled off easily and did not take any of the paint with it when i did finally remove it.
I gave this product 5-stars because it did exactly what it claims to do, and it did it well, 2 years running.

Customer Review: It worked for a few days then.......

well. Like many others, I read a lot of the reviews on here and decided to take a chance since it was only $9.
So, I got $9 worth. If you are fairly smart about things then you should have no problems putting these things up on your windows.
I read a few people who had difficulty putting these up cause they unraveled the entire roll of plastic (length and height) then cut.

You should roll it out to the width of your window then pull the plastic apart to fit the window.
well, I followed the instructions with the tape and hair dryer. It stayed in place for about a week then the adhesive tape started to peel away from the windows.
I did clean the area with the provided alcohol pads first. It does block the cold draft I was getting for about a week. Then the adhesive tape started to come off.

My solution was to get some painter's tape and apply the tape on top of the plastic to keep them in place. it is unsightly but it does get the job done until the weather warms up.

so, for $9 I got what I paid for, I think I will try a different brand next year. Hope this helps somebody.

Customer Review: Worthless
Summary: 1 Stars

This product is absolutely worthless. The tape did not stick to either the window or even the plastic! Every time you tried to pull the plastic towards the side or bottom of the window, one of the sides already applied would pull off. And don't tell me I was using too small a piece. I had plenty of slack around the window. I ended up having to put scotch tape around the perimeter of the plastic just to make it stay. I had read some reviews on the 3M product, but could only find the Duck Brand. After attempting to install it last night with absolutely no luck, I came to read the reviews here to see what others thought.

Too often I suspect the Company itself peppers in rosy reviews for the product. I can't imagine who the person is who can make this product work as it claims. For those who have had the same problem as I did, don't get sucked into the "you should have read the instructions first" admonition...as though its an operator problem. Bottom line, this product DOES NOT WORK.

I read all instructions and followed them, and I was able to put the film up, but it kept unsticking from the tape; this was frustrating. It was amazing to see the "small" drafts blowing the cling toward me, like a huge bubble. I decided to move ahead, even though I was convinced I did not put it up right since it kept unsticking and wrinkling. Once I took the hair dryer to it, the change was amazing. The cling shrank and it seemed to seal itself better to the tape, thank goodness. It stayed up over night, and I really think I can tell a difference. So far, so good. Warning: beware of blowing it too long. The part you use to lift the window sticks out further than the frame (on my windows anyway), so the corners of it almost punctured the cling.

Customer Review: Hole-y Dissapointing
Summary: 3 Stars

I've made a point of only buying 3M window-covering kits for years now, due to some dissapointments about 5 years back, but decided to give Duck a try, as I've liked a number of their roll-tape products, they were cheaper than 3M, and I needed to cover a more than 5 windows, so I would be able to compare the two produts. Sadly, Duck has NOT been nearly as good . . . the window plastic is thinner than the 3M material, and the tape does not stick as well . . . I've been forced to check the windows over and over again, to re-stick where the sides may have blown out from a gust of wind outside. Next year, I'm sticking with 3M for all of the windows I cover.
