Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duck Brand 1299529 Indoor 5-Window Shrink Film Kit, 62-by-210-InchCustomer Review: Save money, feel warm Summary: 4 Stars
I have used these window sealing kits in Iowa for a number of years. Pretty much standard issue in stores in that part of the world. Recently moved to Calif and is very hard to find. Given the old houses/apartments here (read: single pane, wafer thin windows, and leaky caulking) and the fairly cold night weather (temps in the 30's to 40's in winter), these are indispensable. Electric bills slashed by 5-10%, less dryness-causing heater use (and therefore less need for humidifier).
And they are easily resuable. Just be careful when you take it down after winter is over, fold and store. Only wish they gave more tape to go with it.
Customer Review: Package not clear on usage Summary: 3 Stars
I'm sure this would have been a good product, but the appropriate surfaces were not well explained on the package. This product cannot be used on stained wood with no varnish. It may be obvious to some (and makes sense after thinking about it) but it didn't specifically list "stained wood" until you open the package. It does say that it is not for unfinished/unvarnished on the outside, but I didn't consider the bare-stained wood. And I'm sure the heat from the hair-dryer wouldn't be good for the stain. I'm glad I didn't try it out.
Had it been clear from the start, I would not have purchased the inappropriate product.
Customer Review: Saves more money than it costs Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this product for years. It does stop drafts and money from being sucked out of the house. I have old a/c vents for a whole house a/c monster that stopped working years ago. I use window a/c units and space heaters for a 80% savings on heating and cooling. The film stops up the old vents preventing negative air flow from sucking the heat out of the house in the winter and preventing (or at least slowing down) heat infiltration in the summer. The house is still well ventilated for air flow. Give this as a house warming gift, buy and install some for a senior citizen, use it yourself. It does save far more money than it costs!
Customer Review: Beware: Double sided tape will peel paint! Summary: 2 Stars
I bought two packages of this Henkel Duck product and completed nine 3x5 windows in my apartment.
*This product came with poor/minimal instructions.
*I tried calling the Henkel Duck company and sat on hold for over 20 minutes and finally gave up trying to get a hold of someone about my questions.
*I found it time consuming to cut the 3x5 sheets and it was not easy cutting a straight line.
*THE WORST PROBLEM: The double sided tape DOES PEEL PAINT OFF. So, now thanks to Henkel Duck I have a painting project to complete.
I do not recommend this product.
Customer Review: Excellent product! Read the instructions so you are not disappointed and write bad reviews. Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the instructions completely and knowing I was not suppose to place this product on the painted surfaces or drywall, I must say it was the easiest and best solution to our problem!! I stuck the double stick tape directly to my aluminum frame all around the window. I used the blowdryer and got the film to a crystal clear state. Clean your windows inside first! The drafts coming through our bedroom windows are gone! I didn't have to get new window coverings to help with the drafts. The draft was the problem and now it is gone. My husband sleeps right next to the window and has thanked me every night.
