My ceilings are sloped and my bath vents are tilted. So gravity holds the dampers open slightly. When the wind blows, cold air comes in the vents. I am an engineer and I tend to dig until I find something that works. I have been looking for several days and this appears to be one of the better quality soffit vents on the market. My concern is the space requirement. The vent accepts 4", 5", or 6" hose. So this vent may be a couple inches taller than others that only accept 4" hose.
The installation instructions state, "For use on soffit panels at least 16" wide with a vertical clearance of at least 6" high." There may not be 6" clearance with a normal or low slope roof and some soffit is only 12" wide. I suggest you check clearances before ordering. If it fits, this does appear to be one of the better soffit vents out there.
The ends of my vent pipes have just been laying on top of the vented soffit for 15 years. There are no signs of mold or moisture. So my second choice are spring loaded backdraft dampers from American Aldes (BDD4) or Continental Fan (BDD100). The designs are similar and the Aldes model has very good reviews. The quality of Fantech and other manufacturers appears to be lacking. Although this isn't the "proper" approach, it will work fine for me.
I have not made a purchased yet, but I hope these suggestions save you time and point you in the right direction.
