Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duracraft DWM250 2-1/2-Gallon Warm-Mist HumidifierCustomer Review: decent, considering everything, and I would buy again Summary: 4 Stars
Well designed. Easy to refill. Maybe it's just my water but I have to clean the thing every day although I do an abbreviated routine. One thing that isn't emphasized, even in the cleaning instructions, is the fact that the heating element is sittingin the water all the time so it, as well as the plastic housing around it gets filthy and you cannot submerge it to clean it.The instructions say something vague . . .like an afterthought . . ."wipe down as needed". Well. I dig around in there withmy fingers wrapped in paper towels soaked in vinegar *every day*.Then scrub the metal element with a very stiff brush andit's still coated thickly with minerals after a couple of weeks of use.
And that is after filtering the water through a PUR filter. Again, maybe my water is especially bad. However, the great news is that I am not finding evidence of calcium powder on the furniture, etc.
One unit does not up the humidity in the room dramatically in my climate (I am in Chicago with hot water heating, not forced air). I am running one in each room and can't get the humidity up past about 3o - 40% at most. Still, that's better than nothing. I run it around the clock. Refill it about three times a day. The instructions caution about opening windows for more than a minute or two a day -- I guess the cold air dries out the room? Well, I do keep the window in my bedroom open a couple of inches and notice that when it's closed the humidity goes up quit a bit -- to the low 30%.
I've been using it for a few weeks. The calcium deposits on the heating element are really heavy in spite of endless scrubbing with stiff brushes and wiping down with vinegar so I wonder how long it will last.
The vendor was fine. Delivery and packaging were good. Price seemed reasonable.
Your water is boiling in soft white plastic . . .if you care about that.
Still it was the best I could find in the boiling type after doing quite a bit of research and I don't mind the small output since a huge humidifier will create a very damp area (think floors, etc.) close to the machine. It's also really well designed for refilling and the container
is light enough when filled for even an elderly or arthritic person to handle.
Personally I think the boiled water is healthier than the cool humidifiers and the new type -- ultrasonic? -- filled my house up with STICKY white calcium in two days. It's not just mineral powder -- it's *sticky* mineral powder and especially attracted to all your electronics so keep a close eye if you get one of those. I bought a fancy, expensive one and had a mess after a couple of days.
Don't expect years of use. I expect mine to be worn out by the end of the season, if they get that far. And as far as warrantee I think it was one of those "send it at your own expense to somewhere along with ten bucks for us and we'll get back to you".
I would buy again, based on ease of handling, simple electronics less likely to break down, excellent design for refilling and
the seemingly limited choices for the boiling water type of machine.
Hope this helps.
