Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duracraft DWM250 2-1/2-Gallon Warm-Mist Humidifier

Customer Review: Unimpressed
Summary: 2 Stars

I've had a humidifier in my bedroom ever since it started getting cooler outside. The air is getting dry and I started waking up with a sore throat. The humidifier I had worked great, but then my family started having the same problems in the living room. So, I moved my humidifier out there, and got a new Duracraft Warm-Mist Humidifier for the bedroom. Sadly, after three weeks, it's been worthless. The tank drains completely within a few hours, and I'm back to waking up in the middle of the night in pain. I'm tired of refilling it multiple times per day, for nothing. The bedroom is small, and I have the humidifier next to the bed - there shouldn't be any reason this one doesn't work where the other one excelled. (Fortunately, my family's problems have all been relieved by my other humidifier). It does run well - no loud noises or anything - and set up and operation are very easy. I have not used the medicine cup option, perhaps it's more suited for that type of scenario. (Note: The "cup" is very tiny, about 1" deep, and 1/2" diameter)

Customer Review: Functionality: GREAT. Manufacture: So-so.

I bought this because it was one of the best-reviewed of the affordable warm-steam humidifiers out there, and I have not been disappointed in my use of it for a few weeks now. The water tank lasts all night and then some on the low setting, and maybe 5-6 hours on the high setting. I only use it to keep our winter bedroom a bit less dry during these cold months, and for that it is a fine product.

The case and connection between the base, tank, and "electric" portion is kind of flimsily built, as I see it. They're not gonna break or fall apart, but it's not the greatest nor the sturdiest series of connections. But then again, it sits on a table, so what does it matter?

The fact that you have to press the "Start" button every time it gets turned off and then back on is a bit confusing, because you don't know if it's actually DOING anything until steam comes after a few seconds/minutes. The light indicates that the High/Low knob is on, not the start button, you see.

Overall, great humidifier, though!

You get what you pay for I guess. This humidifier does not live up to expectations and is not as good as the Vicks one I had in the past. First, it doesn't always work. I push the start button (why is this necessary?) and turn it on to low or high, and some nights it works and some nights it doesn't I never know until I wake up in the morning. Second, the amount of output is weird. When it is on high it evaporates all the water in about 5 or 6 hours, but when it is on low, it never drains the tank, even on weekends when I could be in bed for 8 to 10 hours. And finally, whether it is on low or high, it does not produce enough humidity to make a difference in how the air feels or in my symptoms (dry throat, stuffy nose, allergies, etc.).

The only thing I like better about this unit over the Vicks one I had is that this unit seems to be easier to clean -- somehow the hard water scales clean off much more easily than on the Vicks. Not sure why.

I would NOT purchase this again.

Customer Review: So Far, So Good
Summary: 4 Stars

Having used my Duracraft warm-mist humidifier for a month and a half, I've had no problems; it works exactly like the directions say it will. Its best features are that it is incredibly quiet (completely silent except for occassional gurgles), and that it is very easy to fill. On the low setting, it lasts all night and longer. On high, it will only last most of the night, but the auto shut-off works like a charm. Another plus is that this machine does not create any of that white dust you hear associated with some humidifiers. I've had far fewer nose bleeds from dry winter heat since starting to use this humidifier. The biggest downside is the inevitable mineral build up that needs to be removed weekly, but I think the few minutes per week I spend on that is worth the benefits. The only reason I give the Duracraft a 4 instead of a 5 is because I don't yet know how long it will last. I did a lot of research before purchasing the warm-mist Duracraft and, so far, my research has paid off.

Customer Review: Not worth 2 Stars

I bought this same one from Target last year for my daughters room. When it is on, it does what it is supposed to do, so I guess that is good. However as others have mentioned there is a "start" button feature which is really annoying and I will never buy another one even similiar to it again. You have to set it to low or high, whichever you want, and then you need to push down this start button. Since the mist doesn't start coming right away it was hard to know if for sure the thing was even turned on or not. This was particularly troubling in the night when I was trying to do this in the dark so as not to disturb my child. It is virtually impossible to know if it is on or not.....you literally have to wait for the unit to warm up the water enough to start the steam feature....which can take several minutes. I prefer to just use one that you turn on, and know it is on. So in my opinion even though this unit does work, the annoying qualities of it make it not worth it.....
