Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dustless Technologies MU305 Cheetah II Ash Vacuum, BlackCustomer Review: Possibly The Worst Vacuum Ever Made Summary: 1 Stars
This has to be the very worst Vacuum I have ever used, hands down. First off, this is the noisiest Vacuum on the planet, seriously. If you can get beyond the noise, it simply just does not work very well. It has very poor suction, a small hose and a short cord.
The premise behind this Vacuum is that you can use it to clean you fire place, sucking up potentially warm ashes/embers. Yea it has a metal hose, but too bad both ends of the hose are rubber, thereby defeating the purpose of a metal hose. Your potentially hot material will melt the end of your hose before it ever gets into the metal hose part, DOHP! By having such a small hose, it clogs so very easy its just stupid. The problem with most shop Vacuum manufactures, is that where the hose attaches to the canister/tank/body, there is always a 90 degree elbow which turns down to the bottom to direct all the material you are sucking up, good idea so it seems. With such a small hose diameter, this 90 degree turn down becomes the mother of all clogs, getting clogged up all the time.
To make matters even worse, this thing has a supper short cord attached, which means you have to get an extension cord out to use, then they followed up this feat with a supper short suction hose. Seriously, this this is a real POS, especially for the $220, and if you weren't already pissed at yourself for buying such an overpriced vacuum by now, it has such poor suction, that you just want to cry when you use it, but you are probably already crying by now anyways because your ears are bleeding from the noise.
Here is what I would do if I had to do all over again. You have two choices, A. buy a supper cheap shop vacuum, for like $20 bucks, and throw it away every season at the end of the year and get a new one. It would take you 11+ years to break even on this POS. Option B, spend an extra $100 bucks and get a Vacuum made by FEIN, yea these bad boys start at $300 and go up. I own one of these and a better Vacuum you will never find, a virtually silent vacuum that will suck the your shirt off if you are not careful. I did both of these options, so I can tell you both options work fine. I have the high end Fein and a cheap $20 shop vac, I use both to clean the ashes out of my fireplaces, both do a better job than this POS ash vacuum. I have 5 fireplaces in my house, so cleaning the fireplaces every weekend is something that I have a lot of experience doing. The cheap $20 shop vac route, I usually get a season and a half out of before the ash gets up into the motor housing and basically destroys your vacuum, but like I said, just throw it away, and get a new one. Sometimes my Fein is closer at hand, so I just use it, since it has two filters on it, ash never gets into the motor housing, and it has a 3" diameter hose, so nothing gets stuck in the process.
Do yourself a favor and do not buy one of these ash vacuums, they are stupid expensive for a crappy vacuum.
