Customer Review: Item Will Arrive Damaged, Customer Service Will Be Of No Help, And Amazon Will Charge You, But You Will Have No Clamp

I this item, even though I was warned that it might arrive damaged in shipment. I figured that it was just a few random customers who received their clamps damaged by UPS. However, as predicted mine clamp arrived after having been used as a ramp, brace, etc. by UPS bent in half and the clamping mechanisms crushed on the ends. UPS claimed it as damaged and took it back, but I have heard nothing about it for about three weeks. Amazon customer service was of no help, and quite rude about me daring to imply that they were responsible for bad packaging and possibly using the poorest carrier on the planet. I wish I could actually rate the product itself, but I can't seem to get this problem corrected by either UPS or Amazon, so I don't have a clamp to rate, just a bill from my credit card company. No wonder amazon is so rich, they charge you for things that you never receive or receive in unusable condition. I am very angry, and needed to let people know that if you want this clamp, arrange to have yourself or a friend pick it up from the amazon warehouse --shipping it on UPS, which is the only way Amazon will ship, is a waste of time and money --and not worth the frustration of not being able to finish a job, because it takes these two companies so long to resolve "problems".Customer Review: Great product

I am a general contractor and do many of the smaller jobs as well. I have owned a competitor's 48" brand for years and love using it on the bottom of doors for a straight cut. I had been looking for an 8'version so I could use it to rip down the width of doors plus plywood accurately. When I ran across this, I was excited and purchased it immediately. I have used it on several applications and I can tell you it is worth it's weight in gold. I must say that there is a slight glitch in it's use but once you understand it, it is not a problem. The slight glitch is that sometimes you have to "reset" the locking mechanism with your finger to re-establish the locking ability. Once you figure this out, it's not a problem. I mention this for two reasons, first to save you the frustration you will feel when you think it's not holding properly. Perhaps this is a design flaw because my name brand 48" does not have this issue. Secondly, I noticed that the only "1" star rating so far on this product mentions this complaint. Even with the need to snap the locking pin in place from time to time, I am so pleased with what this guide does for me. It is well worth the cost because it does get the job done. I now have three of these clamps. This one got broken by the carrier in shipping. I figure it got slammed on the end pretty hard as these are pretty tough. The blue ends are made of reinforced plastic and while durable with the right amount of force can be broken.
Nonetheless, I called the company and they shipped out FedEx the replacement part. They spent enough time on the phone so they were sure I knew how to disassemble and put back together. Pretty easy actually. Now thats customer service and support.
I sometimes use two of these together side by side when routing out dado's. They adjust easily and solidly clamp to most any size wood or table. I bought this to cut down a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood to manageable size and also to clamp onto my work bench when the need arises. This is solid enough you learn to rely on using the clamp when working on projects.
There is no bend and you cannot find a better straight edge on the market.
I just added the wide jaws and would recommend those as well. It just adds a little extra.
Highly recommend the product and the company too!

at first i was disappointed in the flimsy nature of the product. i figured it should be intuitive and easy to use. not so. it seemed the product was broken as it would not work. so i had to make a long distance call at my expense. there after three attempts, someone told me they had a problem with the product they had not anticipated. they were correcting it by including instructions. so the person told me the 'secret' of how to make this foolish thing work. i followed the cumbersome instructions and got it to -just sort of work. but it is a very awkard procedure and even then sometimes it does work and then again it will just not. this item sure is not worth the money, not worth the hassle, and not worth having to make a toll call. all it is good for i think is as a straight edge...foregoing any plans to have it clamp easily to wood and guide a saw. never would i have bought this ahd i seen it beforehand.Customer Review: Very useful

For years I've been using jointed boards, shop-made guides, cheaper tool guides, etc... to break down sheets and guide a router. This thing is far easier to lock in place than a clamped board, as everything works from one end. No running back and forth to snug clamps.
I've not had it slip, nor has the middle deflected, when used with my 18v circular saw or several routers. I would imagine that a little PSA 220 grit sandpaper would help if using the guide on materials with smooth or finished edges, like melamine.
This tool is NOT self squaring, but it doesn't claim to be on the package. Mark both ends, set the edge, and flip the latch. That's it!
I've created story blocks that match the tools I typically use with the edge. This eliminates math and measurement errors when placing the guide.
I'm glad I bought this and it's 54 inch sister.
