Tools and Hardware Reviews of All in One Clamp U-99 99-Inch Ultra Wide Grip Clamp with Double T-Track

Customer Review: A Ripping Great Straight Edge!
Summary: 5 Stars

You could buy a straight piece of aluminum angle at any metal supplier and get a straight cut. What really makes the difference with the U99 is the clamping mechanism. The jaws at each end have an agressive grip that doesn't budge, and there's no slack to mess up your careful layout. I have a couple of shorter clamps (not Emersons) and they have a little play in one end or the other. With the U99 I've found that a spring clamp is needed at one end for set up just because it's so long. I spring clamp the free end on the mark then line up the other end and lock the Ultra All-in-one in place.

Can you make something that works as well? You probably can, but I prefer to spend my time making things rather than making jigs. Also the shop made circular saw fences I've seen only work with one saw, I have three. The U99 is ready to use right out of the 9 foot long box.

Customer Review: A Good Long straight edge clamp
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this on a Sunday, picked free shipping and received it on Wednesday. You cannot beat that for service! It arrived in perfect condition in a long well made box. I tested it immediately and found that is works as expected. I do note, however, that the locking movable jaw can appear to lock, but doesn't. You need be careful with the set tab that it actually locks into place, it makes a sharp click when correctly set. This is not my first clamp of this type, but is the first 8 footer. I have an existing 8 footer that requires assembling with screws in the middle, then a screw clamp on each end. That type is a pain to get adjusted and can mar a fine piece of oak or other high grade plywood sheet. This clamp does it right. I also recommend getting the wide jaws attachment as they make squaring up a cut faster and easier.

Customer Review: It's straight... but not worth over $100
Summary: 2 Stars

It's a straight edge. But probably not worth $100.

I don't know if anyone would actually use the T-slots, as they look a bit small and may be prone to binding. The clamping mechanism is ok. As others have pointed out, this will not square itself up with the work you're cutting, so you have to do that.

I did not find the clamps to hold particularly tight to the wood. Even with the "wide" clamps (which only are the width of the track).

Also, the unit could be a bit longer, particularly to help on the start and finish of the cut to give plenty of room for the shoe of the circular saw to track.

Realistically, you're probably better off just making a cutting guide using a factory edge from a piece of wood, angle iron, etc.

Customer Review: worked great for my needs!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this all in one to create a straight edge for an 96"x34" cherry table top. I do not own a jointer so i was having a hard time getting a truly straight edge. I used the 99" clamp and my router with a spiral upcutting bit on the two adjoining edges. i was very happy with the straightness of the guide and will trust it in the future. The clamping mechanism worked well and i liked the three different pressure settings you can apply. I would like to purchase smaller ones as well. I would definitely recommend this product!

Customer Review: Great Clamp for marking or cutting sheet goods
Summary: 5 Stars

I own these clamps in all of the sizes offered. I've never had a problem with the clamping mechanism like some have stated. Keeping the locking rails clean via compressed air or at the least, brushing the rails off with a shop bench brush works quite fine. The U99 is the most used in the shop for cutting plywood and marking up long stock. The shorter clamp rails make excellent router and saw guides as well. After owning these for over a year, I would highly recommend them. Unfortunately, my neighbors love them too!
