Tools and Hardware Reviews of Earthmate EP085250 8-Watt, Dimmable BR30 2700K Bulb, 6 PackCustomer Review: Great replacement for standard lightning. Summary: 4 Stars
Great bulbs, only a couple things bring it down to four stars for me.
1 Star deduction: they do not dim all the way on a standard dimmer and they take a while to charge, one went out quickly but all light bulbs can be easliy damaged during shipping. Another side note, although known before purchase; they provide low volume of light (Considering how much energy they use, it's not a big surprise...)
We have these in our living-room which is relatively well lit during the day and has a ceiling fan in the middle with 4four 50W equivalent CFLs. That being said, I wanted the low volume of light and the low energy cost because we don't watch TV with the lights fully on anyway, and I have the ceiling fan light for the extra light if needed. I also find the light is fine for casual conversation/entertaining at night, usually if we're doing something that requires more light it's in another room anyway.
If you want more task oriented light then you need to get a brighter white light putting out more lumens because these are not designed for that purpose. If you want casual lighting then these are perfect and I could care less how long the need to charge up, because I have other lightning options as anyone should.
Customer Review: Great product. Summary: 5 Stars
I recently renovated our attic, and used recessed lighting throughout. Keeping the space cool is a challenge, as with any such space. We've done all the extra insulation and crawlspace exhaust fans. Recessed lighting was a necessity to save floor space and head clearance.
The incandescent bulbs on the dimmer, even when dimmed, contributed significant heat to the space. After reading the spotty reviews of the Philips and GE "dimmable CFL" BR30 tyoe bulbs, I was not hopeful that I would be able to replace the incandescents. Finding these (which are even cheaper than the GE/Philips alternatives, with lower power consumption) was a surprise. The few reviews were glowing, so I took the plunge and bought two 6-packs (there are 10 recessed lights dispersed through the finished attic).
The difference is remarkable. None of the typical fluorescent lag. Instant on! Very dimmable, probably close to the 5% claimed on the box. And they consume 8W vs the 65W bulbs they replaced. Much less heat.
Customer Review: Best yet Summary: 5 Stars
Great lights, highly recommended.
Best of the 3 brands I've tried.
Use in 6 recessed lights, standard height ceiling. They warm up quickly, come on at ~85% of full brightness, dim nearly full range using existing Lutron incandescent/halogen dimmer switch. No buzzing when dimmed. Consistent light from all bulbs- same color and intensity. High marks for the packaging as well - easy to open, recyclable.
This was my third try using CFLs. First were GE dimmables 15w - disappointing performance - slow on warm up, dimmed about 1/2 range, buzzed when dimmed, relatively even color. Returned them, got ecosmart bulbs, 15w - terrible - long warm up, uneven color between the bulbs, packaging said dimmable, but they were almost on/off when attempting to dim.
These 8w are good for general lighting with standard height ceiling. Light is a bit low which works well for my application. Only use 48w versus 90w for the next step up. Light is adequate for reading.
Customer Review: Working well for my application Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a six-pack of these bulbs about 8 weeks ago (a lot cheaper at that time, around $55). I am using all six with a dimmer switch in our basement family room used primarily for watching TV.
They are instant on when flicking the light switch, but prior to buying them, I mistook this statement from other reviewer's to mean "on with full light intensity." They definitely need to be on for 2 - 3 minutes prior to working at full intensity. This in no big deal for a family room, but perhaps would be in a kitchen or another room where you need full intensity lighting right away.
The dimmable aspect of these bulbs work well. They flicker a little as you use the dimmer, but then hold steady after setting the dimmer. They can be dimmed very far down.
I am glad I bought these bulbs. We are using significantly less energy to light our family room with little compromise.
Customer Review: Great Bulbs - love them Summary: 5 Stars
I replaced 75w dimmable bulbs with these. No issues. These are nice. I have too many recessed lights in my house so It was overly lit and spending lots of energy. Replacing with these was just enough light. I do need a stronger bulb over my reading chair as these are too dim to read well. I have 8' ceilings. Only downside is these are made in China I was hoping to support the US economy by buying these. I didnt buy from Amazon I searched online for a cheaper source. I highly recommend this purchase.
UPDATE: After 1 year of use I had 5 out of 23 bulbs stop working. I contacted earthmate directly and they had me mail back the bulbs with my recipt and I spent $8 bucks on shipping but received brand new bulbs in a quick turn around. That was a few months ago. No problems since. Earthmate is a very easy company to work with. I'm pleased and will continue to buy their products.
