Tools and Hardware Reviews of Earthmate EP085250 8-Watt, Dimmable BR30 2700K Bulb, 6 PackCustomer Review: Not worth the money Summary: 1 Stars
We bought this product in January of this year. We were changing all our can lights in our home to flourescent. After researching various brands and types we came across this one and found that for the cost it was supposed to be the best. The 9 year guarantee is what really sold us. Well, in August we had to start replacing the bulbs already! That is 8 months, not 9 years. I now will have to replace the bulbs, with another brand of course. I am very disappointed that for the amount of money we spent on these bulbs and we didn't get the promises or "guarantees" that were indicated!! To get the money back or a bulb replaced through Earth Mate, I need to mail the bulbs back, at MY expense and sit and wait for them to decide how to handle it....Just going to be more money spent to get nothing out of it in the long run!!!
Customer Review: Great light! Summary: 5 Stars
Just installed 6 of these last night to replace some 65 watt lights. The 65 watt bulbs were overkill for the fixtures they were in, so these ended up being perfect. There is a bit of a warm up time with these bulbs (about a min) so they start a little dim. However, once they warm up, the light is great. Much more warm than standard CFLs, but not quite as warm as a standard bulb. The dimmer works great with these as well; I can take the switch pretty much all the way to the bottom. Also, I was a bit worried that I would see the CFL tubes through the bulb, but I can thankfully say this is not the case. These are fantastic, especially considering that I can run 6 of these bulbs for 48 watts total, less than one of the bulbs that they replaced!
Customer Review: Avoid these bulbs Summary: 1 Stars
I'm not a tree-hugger, but if I can save energy at the same time as saving money I will foot the bill on a multi-year investment. I bought 12 of these bulbs and figured it would take 3-5 years to get my money back. Even if I broke even I would have thought they were worth it, as less energy means a better world. I am disgusted at the failure rate of these bulbs. A majority of the bulbs failed after 3 months, while it took less than a year for the rest to give up. The light is poor. They never dimmed well. Now they don't work and off to the recycling center they go.
Earthmate is sham. I give them a less than zero. Why would I even return these? I don't want loser products in my home.
Customer Review: 2 of 12 Summary: 4 Stars
Only thing to say was that on delivery one bulb (of 2 six packs ordered) was broken.
Another one died within the first 4 months. When I went to remove it from the fixture, the glue had failed and by barely touching it the glass came loose leaving the guts in the fixture. A little jarring, seeing it could have fallen any time, and its position was in my 2.5 year olds room, directly above the chair he reads books in.
Amazon did a get thing, by crediting me the value of the two bulbs. Which I will use ordering another 6 pack. Can never have enough back up bulbs around.
Overall, they're not bright enough for me... but a dimmable CFL is pretty nice to have.
Customer Review: Big disappointment Summary: 1 Stars
We bought 12 of this about 6 months ago. The 10 year warranty is what sold us. Cold cathode technology was supposed to be much more robust than regular CFLs. Turns out they're not. In six months we've already had a third of these burn out. If they made a no hassle no shipping cost exchange warranty on top of their supposed 10 year warranty, I'd be willing to put up with this until they work out the bugs, but as it stands I wasted $170 on a product that last not longer than a regular CFL!!!!
Also, after 6 months they put out nowhere near as much light as they did when new. I'd estimate they're as bright as a 20 watt incandescent bulb at this point.
Avoid.
