Tools and Hardware Reviews of ETQ TG32P12 4,000 Watt 7 HP 207cc 4-Cycle OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator

Customer Review: Good buy, works as expected
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this generator a few months ago for use on our off-the-grid property.

First the negatives which are mentioned elsewhere in other reviews:
1) the pull cord is recessed behind the support mounts so that it can not be pulled directly out from its housing but rather at a slight angle. Over time this may result in extra wear on the cord and cause it to break sooner than it would otherwise.
2) the oil fill is located at a difficult to reach location and angle, making it difficult to fill without a funnel, UNLESS, you have a friend tip the unit back about 30 degrees, and then filling is a breeze - just be careful not to OVERFILL.

Now the positives:
1) The unit arrived promptly and in good condition.
2) Assembly was easy.
3) The generator starts easily every time: turn on the switch, turn the fuel valve to the on position, set the choke, pull the cord once or twice and it starts. The only time it wouldn't start was when I forgot and let the oil run low and the low-oil sensor refused to let me ruin the engine.
4) The generator works in cold (20 deg V AC needs, it senses and immediately adjusts to handle load demands.
5) As generators go, it's relatively quiet.

Overall, this is good value for the cost.

Customer Review: Quiet power
Summary: 4 Stars

This generator is a well thought out tool. It has all the features I was looking for. Quiet running, large fuel tank, 220vac, clean sign wave, enough power to for my needs. The engine starts easy and runs smooth and quiet. I bought this generator for a backup when the power fails. That has not happened yet, but I am confident that this tool will do the job when the time comes. So much for the pro's.
When I unpacked the generator I found a broken weld on one of the four control panel brackets. This defect did not affect the performance of the generator, but it was a manufacturing defect. I called the customer service number and they made arrangements to have a local repair company fix the problem. This company had a six week backlog at that time. I did some simple math. Six weeks to look at my generator. Then order parts from the Chinese manufacturer. Wait for the replacement frame to arrive. Then get back in line for repair. As I considered the repair process, I thought three to six months was optimistic. That didn't work for me. I decided to fashion my own plastic strap clamp to mount the loose corner of the control panel to the frame and call it good. As I understand it, this sort of thing is not unusual for many Chinese company's these days.

Customer Review: What I expected.....So Far.
Summary: 4 Stars

Ordered this item on a Sunday morning. Generator delivered the following Thursday afternoon. Not bad with free shipping. The box was a little beat up which worried me. But the generator inside was close to perfect. Only problem I found was the muffler baffle on the back side of the generator was bent on one side. But this will not affect performance. I agree that the oil fill location is not convenient, but with a 1.5 foot piece of plastic tubing that I already had and a funnel, I was able to fill the crank case fairly easily. Took my time to not overfill it and make a mess. Assembly was easy and went quickly. Generator cranked up on the second pull and engine smoothed out nicely rather quickly. I'm giving this 4 stars because I have not been able to put a load on the generator yet. So far, am very pleased. I am doing lots of work at a site where a double wide trailor will be placed. There is no power available and this generator will get a good work out very soon. We may have some snow this weekend and the slightest snow accumulation tends to wreak havock on the above ground power network in Alabama. With a new generator full of gas and ready to go, I'm thinking power outages may not be so inconvenient anymore.

Customer Review: ETQ TG32P12: Nearly Great
Summary: 3 Stars

I considered titling this review "The Toyota of Generators."

It arrived promptly in good apparent condition with all parts and even a cute little set of tools. I read the assembly instructions and immediately deviated from them by inverting the carton so that the generator emerged lying on its back (on the Styrofoam packing). This allowed me to attach the wheels and bumpers far more easily, leaving only the folding handle to attach after I righted the unit.

I added oil and gas, flipped the petcock to ON and closed the choke. It started immediately and purred away contentedly after the choke was opened.

So, why "Toyota?" After a few minutes I reached for the switch to shut it off. To my surprise, the switch was already in the OFF position. Turning it on and off had no effect on the engine. Shutting off the fuel flow did finally stop it. A cursory inspection revealed but a single wire (yellow/green) connected to the switch. The wiring diagram shows both a yellow/green and a yellow wire connected here. Further investigation showed that the actual wiring color scheme was quite different from the diagram in the manual.

The next logical step is a call to ETQ.

Customer Review: Shipped knowning gas tank was cracked
Summary: 1 Stars

I just received my generator today. The packaging was in relatively good condition. After taking it out of the box, the generator only had some minor wear marks on the frame. Packaging could have been better.

Pros: Easy to assemble and protable with wheels

Cons: Leaking Gas Tank (Shipped knowing it was cracked!)
13.5 A breaker for a 20 A plug

Directions to install the wheels and handle were simple and nicely documented.

Afterward, I added the oil (a bit awkward due to the angle of the fill port) and added about 1 gal of gas.

I quickly noticed gas was leaking from the stem where the shut off valve is connected to the bottom of the steel tank.

Closer examination revealed a cracked in the gas tank where the stem is connected to the tank. There was a red mark around the crack, indicating someone knew there was a defect, but failed to take the necessary action to correct the problem.

Since this item is not returnable merchandize, I the consumer am stuck with the problem. I called ETQ and left a voice message and E-mailed them and I'm now waiting to hear back from them.
