Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eco-heater 602 High-Efficiency Electric Panel Whole-Room Heater

Customer Review: Great heater for the nursery
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this heater in Fall 2008 and installed it in the bedroom of my 2 month old daughter. Actually I bought it from a different seller who sells the same model except with some painting on it. Mine had a cute picture of a family of bears. I came to the Amazon website to buy a thermostat for this product and decided to leave a review for the panel itself.

I have a very small bedroom and did not have any space available to install the panel close to the floor so I installed it above the love seat. As I said, mine had a cure picture, so it actually looks like a picture on the wall rather than a heater and my daughter always smiles at it. My guest never realized that it is a heater...
So it is not a big problem if it is installed at 4-5 ft above the floor particular if your room is not very big.

It take about 10-15 minutes for the heater to warm up so you have to keep in it mind. That is why I ended up using it continuously in my daughters room and had to keep the door open sometimes to prevent temperature from raising up to much. That is why I came back to buy a thermostat and would recommend to other to buy it.

Once the heater is running, it does get hot, but you can still touch it for short period of time without getting burned. So it is safe to touch.

It does not make any noise, and does not dry the air. I recommended this product to all my friend who recently had babies.

Customer Review: Performed much better then expected!

I researched a lot of supplemental type of heaters before deciding on this one. Delivery was prompt, installation simple. I installed this in my family room which is on the walk-in level of my home in Michigan. No matter what I turn my natural gas heater up to, the lower level where this room is located is always a bit cold especially the floor area. After a couple of hours, I thought.. hmmm... I don't think this is going to make much difference. My downstairs was still about 4-6 degree cooler then the upstairs. Decided to leave it on overnight, checked the next morning and the warmth as soon as I hit the downstairs said it all.. I was quite suprised and very impressed! I was able to turn the upstairs thermostat down a few degrees and the downstairs continues to maintain about the same temp as upstairs. The money I will save from turning down the main thermostat will more then make up for any incresase in electricity from the eco-heater.

If you are trying to heat a room with no supplemental heat source, i.e, natural gas furnace, don't bother. If you have a cooler room and tired of cranking up the heat to keep it warm you need this!

Remember, this does not have a fan, but the natural flow of cold/warm air replacement makes this heater feel as if there is a fan circulating the heat. You gotta try it to believe it! And, with a cost near $100 to purchase, you can't lose.

Customer Review: Safe & Effective Heater
Summary: 5 Stars

For Christmas my Grammie received an Eco-Heater for her sun-room. This room, an extension of her house, wasn't well insulated during finishing. Even with two heat ducts, the large windows transfers cool temperatures indoors. Her space heater, loud for its size, managed to create hot spots without affecting the rest of the room and posed a danger to my children as they played.

The Eco-Heater has been the perfect fit for her needs. It's a quiet, no burn risk which effectively heats the entire room without creating hot spots. It mounted easily and can be painted to blend seamlessly to the wall. Below are manufacture description and the answer to why this is a [...] Product of the Week.

- Convection technology generates heat behind the unit, drawing cold air into the 3/4-inch gap between the heater and the wall and releasing about 90 percent in an up-draft from the top of the unit out into the room, with only 10 percent radiating forward from the front of the panel

- Uses only 27% of energy that a typical 1500 watt heater, the equivalent of four 100-watt light bulbs

- Top concerns with heater safety are the possibility of a fire. ECO-heaters have no exposed elements or areas for dust accumulation; therefore, the risk of fire is almost nil

- Although the heater is hot to touch, it will not burn the skin if touched

Customer Review: great heater for infant room
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product. We did a lot of research before buying this heater, as we were concerned about safety. We bought this for our child's nursery because we wanted to keep the nursery warm but not have to heat the whole house as high. I will highlight several points:

1) Customer service is great: I called them with several questions and they answered them all
2) Delivery was fast and installation VERY easy.
3) We plug it into a thermostat so it only heats the room up to what we set it to on the programable thermostat. This works great so we know it will shut off if the room gets over 71 degrees. We also installed a fire detector above the panel just in case as an added precaution.
4) The room we have it in is small, only about 12 ft by 12 ft, so one panel does the job easily.
5) While the panel does get hot to touch, it does not seem hot enough to burn my hand. That said, I would not leave a child that does not know to pull his/her hand away unattended with it on.

There were several complaints about cracks appearing, etc. Thus far we have not had any cracks, I hope this does not happen to ours. We have been using it for about 1 month and it is working great. But, if things change I will update the review. We did get our first electricity bill and it was barely affected by the use of the heater as far as we could tell.

Customer Review: Nice idea, big marketing hype.
Summary: 2 Stars

All electric heaters have essentially the same efficiency, because they all work by resistive heating. There is no magic, just simple physics. This one features a very large surface area, which probably helps get convection flow going in the room and heat the room air more evenly, so the room may "feel" warmer than if, for example, it were heated by a few feet of cheap electric baseboard which drew the exact same 400W. On the other hand, a longer section of baseboard wrapped around the room, controlled by a good-quality wall thermostat, would use exactly the same amount of energy over time to heat the room air to the same temperature -- and you wouldn't have to worry about having a big, hot-to-the-touch panel on the wall, which may not be desirable for those with small kids.

In sum: the "more efficient" claim is pure bunk. Resistive heating is resistive heating. On the other hand, for those who can't or don't want to install long runs of baseboard to get some good convection flow going to even out temperature throughout the room maybe this is a good fit. Any way you look at it, in the United States where our electricity generation is heavily biased towards coal and the cost of electricity is high almost everywhere, this is neither an eco-friendly nor a cheap way to heat your house.
