Tools and Hardware Reviews of Electrolux Oxygen Canister Vacuum Cleaner, EL6988ECustomer Review: Product is so bad I had to write a review Summary: 1 Stars
My purchase of this product turned into a nightmare. I bought the product because it was a Consumer Reports "best buy". After using it 2 or 3 times, something broke in the rug attachment. I called the brand's customer service number and the automated system provided names of 2 repair facilities. One never returned my call and the other said they couldn't help me after telling me on the phone that they could and to bring the vacuum in. I called customer service a second time to speak to a rep who gave me two additional names of service centers to call. Both said they only dealt with central vac systems. I called a third time to see how I could return the product because there didn't appear to be any service options in my city. I was given the name of yet another service center. I told her I just wanted to return the item and she asked if I had tried changing the belt. I was incredulous. Why would I try that after owning the product for a month? There were no return options so I tried the 5th service center. This one was able to help me, but told me it might be a month before the part came in because the company was slow to ship. In the course of my desperate search for service, I found out that the vacuum is really a "Eureka", not a true Electrolux like some higher-end models. Now that I've used the "repaired" vacuum a few more times, the motor already sounds like it's getting louder and clanky. I'm sure I'll be replacing it as soon as the warranty period expires. My experience with this product and company has been frustrating, disappointing and a horrible waste of time. It's definitely been one of the worst purchases I've ever made. Stay away!
Customer Review: Do not buy an Oxygen Vacuum Summary: 1 Stars
We purchased an Electrolux Oxygen Vacuum Cleaner because it was top rated by Consumer Reports. Ours arrived with a faulty cord reel.
We found out that Eureka had purchased Electrolux. Eureka does not pay technicians enough to perform warranty work, and all but one warranty repair center in our region (Upstate New York) declined to do warranty work on our machine. It took over 6 months to get a replacement cord reel and have it repaired. Eureka obviously does not fill repair shop orders promptly either!
Then the main circuit board, which is in the handle, shorted out, the machine would turn on but the power head did not work and the machine would not turn off. Luckily, our technician had one on hand and it was an easy repair. But -- the exact same thing happened again. Our vacuum cleaner has again been in the shop over a month now, with no repair in sight.
To rub salt in the wound: I sent Electrolux customer service an email. I got an automated response promising an answer within 3 business days. No response. So I sent a letter via USPS to Electrolux customer service. No response. It does seem that they would at least be polite enough to write back and tell me it is my own fault for purchasing a Eureka product!
I should say the cleaner worked well when it worked. However, if you purchase one and something goes wrong with it just buy a new different brand vacuum cleaner! Forget having it repaired.Electrolux EL 7020B Oxy3 Ultra Canister VacuumFactory-Refurbished Electrolux Oxygen 3 Ultra Canister Vacuum EL7020B
Customer Review: Strong suction, light , quiet, and reasonably priced. Summary: 5 Stars
This product is rated #1, though not "Best Buy" by Consumer Reports (CR). I read all reviews , those of lower ranking canister vacuum cleaners, and CR's "Best Buy" pick. In the end, I decided to go with the Oxygen, and have not been disappointed.
It is light and quiet, with excellent suction power. It cleans my tile and wood floors beautifully before I mop. I do not have carpets or rugs (allergy problems)
The accessory tools DO have a storage place under the handle, and do not fall off as easily, as one reviewer complained. The upholstery attachment has to be stored elsewhere, yes, but I do not use it daily, so I store it my pantry.
Shopping around online, I was able to find one at a lower price, with no tax and S&H charges. The order came quickly, in pristine packaging and condition.
I am glad I bought this canister vacuum cleaner, and would recommend it highly.
FOLLOW-UP: With rough handling and if hitting the storage area, the accessories can to fall off, but considering its performance with the following accident, I still rate it very high.
Inadvertently, I turned my head to do something else with my other hand, and my hand holding the hose drifted, and the cleaning head went into a bucket of water. I stopped the engine, tipped body of vacuum cleaner, and a quart of water came out. The bag was soaked wet, as were the filters. I removed and discarded all of them. I left the vacuum cleaner upside down to dry....more water came out. After 3 days or so, it WORKED as if nothing had happened....Whew!
Customer Review: Terrible Vacuum Summary: 1 Stars
This vacuum is shoddily made from cheap plastic. After only two months with it (using it only once a week) it is already being duct-taped. The extender is connected to the handle with a flimsy little piece of plastic, meaning that it disconnects during the push and pull of normal vacuuming. Air rushes around the buttons on the handle, which means that the hose is not sealed off, while the powerful carpet attachment spews debris back at your feet.
While there is no such thing as an ergonomically correct vacuum, this is one of the worst. The canister rolls fine on hardwood and tile floors, but is too heavy and ponderous for carpet or rugs (no matter how thin). The unit does not turn well and then lags behind you, meaning that it gets jerked along as you vacuum (not a unit for apartments or smaller spaces) running into your legs, scarring furniture, and knocking things over. The rolly-polly design of the canister unit causes it to tip over quite often, while the carpet attachment is FAR too heavy and bulky to be of any use--and the 'power control' mechanism drags you across the floor. This leaves only the lighter, brush attachments, which means that the vacuum picks up NOTHING. Lastly, the power cord retracts itself while you vacuum--without you pushing the retract button--meaning that the plug gets jerked out of the wall every five feet.
And I have just learned that this is NOT an American Electrolux. Instead, it is manufactured by a foreign company with no customer service to speak of. I strongly recommend that customers AVOID this product.
Customer Review: Got up the pet hair! Summary: 4 Stars
My last Electrolux finally died after 13 years, so read all the consumer report issues and selected this model about 2 months ago.
Strengths:
Excellent at removing pet hair from carpets - could not be more pleased with the performance on carpets and pet fur (2 cats + a golden retriever/collie mix = lots of fur!)
Cord and hose lengths are longer than my old one - not sure why other reviewers complained; seem just as long as my Mom's Hoover cord.
Nice compact size - much easier to fit in the closet and carry up stairs than old model
Price is less than my old model too
Areas needing improvement:
Bag is small, might not be a problem if you don't have pets
Bag can be annoying to remove - there is a plastic slide toggle that tends to not move out of the way enuf to allow the bag to slide off easily
For some reason, they designed the power head/tube assembly to swivel in one direction. Don't know why, as this makes it awkward to manuever, and it only twists to the right - would rather it remain straight, or, turn in both directions.
My husband complains that the regular head doesn't work on hard floors. I find it works OK (tho not as good as old model). If you use the hard floors attachement it is fine - we have been used to doing all the floors without having to change heads and so have to make a 2nd trip to the closet for the attachement.
Overall, I'd recommend this - would buy again.
