Tools and Hardware Reviews of Electrolux Oxygen Canister Vacuum Cleaner, EL6988ECustomer Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this vacuum after doing a lot of research. I was needing to replace my Kenmore Progressive Canister, which is falling apart after 6 years of use. I did not want another Kenmore because I had trouble finding the replacement filters, both in Sears and online. The pros: the Electrolux oxygen was easy to assemble, compact, and has pretty good suction (although I only used it once). The cons: I had to give it one start for quality. The attachments (other than the motorized brush head) do not fit on securely. There are two on board attachments which kept falling off. The other attachments have no place to be stored. The cord is ridiculously short compared to my old Kenmore canister...I have a 2200 sq.ft. home and could not even vacuum my entire living room without moving the cord to another outlet!!! Also, the canister seems to have a mind of it's own...it would keep rolling when I stopped(on my wood floors) and doesn't turn very easily. The wand is adjustable which is a great feature, but mine wouldn't stay engaged in one position. Really annoying when you are trying to push it back and forth! I keep accidently pushing the controls on the hand portion of the vacuum, turning it off. I was so excited to get my new vacuum, but was extremely disappointed after using it. I am hoping it doesn't cost a fortune to send back because I'm not keeping it!
Customer Review: Really Nice Vacuum Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this vaccum after developing allergies for the first time. My parents have had an elextrolux for the past 25 years and it has always worked great. Although Eureka is now making these electrolux vaccums I expect that in order to preserve the integrity of the name they will make every effort to make sure this product line is up to standard, and I think they have succeded in this regard. Contrary to the other reviews I took my vaccum home and was able to connect all of the pieces by myself without any problems. The bags are small, but so is the vaccum. If you want bigger bags chose an upright, but beware, the hepa filtration on those units is not as good. The filter and bags are easy to acess. The power head is very sturdy but has a little trouble standing on its own- it can do it, but will fall down with the slightest breeze. The vaccum is very quiet. To test the suction I first vaccumed with my old vaccum and then revaccumed with this one. I was very impressed. I could hear every piece of sand and crumb climbing up the hose- and there was a lot!!! It even has a light so you can vaccum in the dark, or in a dark corner. The head seems to move itself effortlessly across the room. If you are considering this machine, don't be afraid of the other reviews. I did not experience their woes.
Customer Review: Unlike my refrigerator... Summary: 5 Stars
After much research on my part (as most of you have done), I purchased the model EL6888A from Lowes over 6 years ago & have never experienced an unfixable problem with the vacuum...can't say the same for a mid-range Frigidaire fridge that expired at less than 4 years old. The compressor went and of course, I hadn't purchased the extended warranty...repairman said it wasn't worth fixing after shipping, labor costs, etc.; that they're made to replace, not repair.
Back to the vacuum...even with an active Samoyed (and a recently deceased Collie/Shepherd mix), the Oxygen does a wonderful job of keeping area rugs and (lots of) hardwood floors clean and the HEPA filter system plus sealed container/bag eliminate practically all particle escape and allergens...the suction is still amazing...tools work fine also...I add a natural potpourri mix to the bag and the fragrance released is fabulous. A few negatives are, as some stated, tripping over the cord occassionally, and repositioning the canister. Several times the light indicator for full bag flicked on after the bag had already overflowed a bit into the hose, so I do keep an eye on that, but other than replacing the belt due to a helpful husband catching the fringe from an afghan by mistake, this vacuum continues to serve me very well.
Customer Review: Great Machine! Summary: 5 Stars
This vac was recommended by our allergist, but after reading some of the user reviews I was a bit reluctant to buy it. I have to say that after 3.5 months I am extremely pleased with this unit. This thing has incredible suction...the first time I used it I think I filled the bag almost halfway and this was less than a week after vacuuming with the old machine. Also, despite the power, this vacuum is pretty quiet. I have no complaints at all with the performance, nor have I had any problems with it. Everything is still good as new. I love that it's easy to connect/disconnect the parts. I do have a couple very small gripes. The first one is that the power head could sound better. It works great, but the outer shell vibrates and makes it sound cheap. My other complaint is that the attachments on the handle will not stay attached. Their location is great, but since they fall off constantly it defeats the whole purpose of having the stored there. Still, the performance of this vacuum more than makes up for those two gripes and I highly recommend it. And yes, this vac really filters the air well. I am using the Clinic bags and I'm not at all afraid to get my face down by the exhaust and breath the air.
Customer Review: Better little vacuum than many people claimed Summary: 4 Stars
Before this purchase, I had a canister Electrolux for years. Bought it at a garage sale for $100 and it lasted forever. I debated whether or not to give the new Electrolux maker a try. And, I couldn't decide which reviews to believe, the bad ones or good ones. After looking at the reviews and features of other vacuums, I decided to go for it. I've only used it a few times, but it is great. Edge feature is nice and it has lots of power; sucks up all the dirt and more. It is easy to use and my house cleaner loved it compared to the old one. As any canister, it has its mobility issues, but not like some people claimed (they probably never had a canister vac). The head was a tiny bit higher than my old one, but it still fit nicely under things. The attachments seem fine and store easily. My only complaint was the cord from the head to the upright handle. It crosses the foot pedal, and so you have to be careful not to step on it while depressing the pedal to lower the handle. Not really a big deal though. This vacuum has some features just like cars do that some people may prefer over others, but in terms of its main function....works great. Definitely not sorry I bought it.
