Customer Review: Fine hatchet, mediocre splitting tool.

In its favor, it's indestructible, not too heavy, it looks cool, and I really like the leather grip.
On the other hand, the original bevel was so convex that after a few camping trips it could no longer be sharpened at all. I got a bit disenchanted with it, until I put a new flat bevel on it with a Dremel and a diamond bit. Much happier now.
The other problem is that the cheeks are extremely concave. It's really not designed for splitting wood.

I am satisfied with my purchase. The quality of this axe had met my expectations. The fact that this axe is made from one piece of metal eases my mind for durability and safety. I have used this axe on trees about 7 inches in diameter and it seems to work ok. I had to sharpen it a little after I received it because it took awhile to get through some wood but that is definitely expected with an axe of this weight and size. As on fellow noted it isn't flawless, couple little nicks and such. But it works and looks great got it today and used it today to make some kindling for the wood stove. I will be buying a few more for gifts. I'm sure it will be the favorite gift to any little camper. also comes plenty sharp, used it straight out of the box. I bought this hatchet as a college graduation gift for my boyfriend. He is an Eagle Scout and I wanted to make sure to get him a top-quality hatchet. This one met and exceeded my expectations. He loved it, as did his three younger brothers who all wanted to try it out first. They immediately went and cut down some dead wood and built a bonfire. my dad had a estwing sportsman hatchet since he was in the boy scouts and i just recently bought my own it is a very nice looking hatchet and comes with a really nice leather sheath. Its cuts wood extremely well and will for a long time my dads still cuts wood almost as good as mine. Its the perfect tool every time you go camping. Definitely worth every penny
