Tools and Hardware Reviews of Estwing E3-22P 22-Ounce Rock PickCustomer Review: Well made, works as intended Summary: 5 Stars
This is a typical Estwing construction as far as the handle and grip are concerned. The head already has the corners and edges beveled so it doesn't chip. The pick end comes to a point so if you're looking for a chisel edge this is not the tool for you. The weight works well - that is, it is sufficiently heavy to accomplish the job, but light enough not to be a burden to carry around and for easy one-handed use. The only thing I've wanted but have not yet seen is a leather carrying attachment for use with a belt; it probably exists, I just haven't found it. It would be nice if Amazon advertised the two together. I've only had this rock pick for a short while and the rocks are already yielding up their treasures!
Customer Review: My Favorite Tool Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best rock hammer I have ever used. The single piece construction gives it the feel of a serious tool while the soft cushioned grip makes it a pleasure to wield.
It comes with a protective clear varnish to ensure the metal is free from blemishes before it is used. Beautiful craftsmanship and elegant design will make this a handsome and useful tool for generations to come.
The steel is very hard and of exceptional quality. After several days of abuse, the point has not dulled a bit. If you get what you pay for, I owe Estwing some more money.
Customer Review: A geological essential Summary: 5 Stars
How well I remember it...the insult..the challenge and the glove across the face...we each embedded the pick end of our Estwing in a handy log, backed up a pace, and stood, sneering and staring each other down until someone in the surrounding crowd yelled "GO!"...
Seriously, if you have a professional or hobby need to pry apart and break rocks, the 22 oz. Estwing is it. And, it can be a handy camp tool - besides the obvious use as a hammer, the pick can be used to reduce downed, cracked tree parts to firewood by prying in the cracks.
Customer Review: A Quality Product Summary: 5 Stars
This product was purchased over other similar items because of the reputed quality and testimonials of other reviewers. This rock pick/hammer has the quality look and feel that tells you it is top notch all the way. Just started using this tool recently in my newfound hobbie ...metal detecting/prospecting. It has great balance and solid weight to get the job done. I am glad I went with the heavier 22-ounce pick. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and expect to get a lifetime of use from this fine product.
Customer Review: It WILL last a lifetime... Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my Estwing for 30 years now- ever since Geology field camp as an undergrad. It has held up with no problems at all. It hasn't even needed grinding to re-point it, but then I work primarily in softer rock. It has split and chipped its share of glacial erratics, however. There are fancier looking hammers out there, but the one piece construction and molded-on grip will truly last you a life time.
