My old Kenmore needed too many parts replaced. It still worked, and I liked the vacuum so I delayed buying a new one. I had gotten very attached to the auto cord rewind on my Kenmore and decided that was a must on a new model. The same basic model from Kenmore no longer had that feature. I stumbled on a this as a discontinued floor model while I was looking for an updated version of my previous vacuum. I did not want the floor model since they were not going to discount it to my satisfaction, so I looked a more substantial model on the floor, the only other one with my must-have feature. I was not impressed with how it actually picked up when I used it. I tried the floor model of the Comfort Clean and was amazed. I came home and read reviews about it which sounded like how I felt. I have had it for over a week now and used it repeatedly daily. The suction is tremendous. I have to get used to the canister on it, and my son is afraid that the latches on the canister won't hold up to overuse, but the plastic seems very sturdy on the canister itself. I ordered an extra filter with the machine. This vacuum picks up alot more fine dust and compacts is pretty seriously up in the filter compartment. When I clean it out I almost need to scrape it to get the dust off the sides. the filter I just bang out gently agaisnt the bricks and pop it all back together. i do notice that need to wipe the outside of the canister b.c. it gets so much dust on it when emptying. We live on a farm and have some large dogs indoors so we empty the canister after each room and I clean out the filter each time we empty. I've done this for years with our old one, so it's nothing new. I just think it will work better if you start with a clean filter each time. The hose doesn't seem to reach as far as I'm used to, but my son really likes that it is see-through so you can tell where it's clogged (again, farm...hay, etc.). The elbow leading to the hose is clear plastic so you can easily see if it is clogged. I've had that happen in the past when sewing pins would get vacuumed up and lodge right there blocking other large particles (the hay again). We rarely use the upholstery brush but my son said that this one works worlds better than the last. He still picks up the entire vacuum to do each stair though. Still getting used to the telescoping wand, but I like there are not excessive pieces to keep up with. This worked better than the $320 I was comparing it to (and almost prepared to buy) in the store. Boy am I glad they had this one on the floor.
