Customer Review: It Packs a Whollop & Great Price too
Summary: 4 Stars

Just got it so can't speak to it's long term quality, but I have a lot of Eureka vacs and they all lasted a long long time. This machine is the best of the Eureka's I've owned. Holy moley, it sucked up so much junk when I first used it on my carpeted hallway. It's about 20 feet long and that little dust cup got packed and I didn't even know I had that much dust/junk! The suction is AWESOME. Yes, it's noisy but I figure that's why it's so powerful. Instead of going over and over a spot, just one run and it's clean. I love seeing the junk rotate like a mini-tornado in the cup. The (invisible) dog hair I picked up - I have 3 dogs, 1 long haired - was just amazing. I didn't see it with the naked eye. The minus is that it does push the dust out in the front, but I just vac it up, I'm not chasing it all over the place. The biggest minus I did not see reviewed was that if one uses the 'manual' hose it is a hassle to have to restore back. I do both when vac-ing when I'm near counters/corners and the walls. Notice in the pictures, that the hose loops up, through the arm holder, and down into the motorized head. That's the hassle, it's humbug to restore, so switching back and forth in-between is a major hassle as I have to stop, re-thread the hose, and then continue with floors. Same with going into crevices or corners of floors/walls. Stop and start, stop and start. And if you don't re-thread it the right way, long term I think a part will break off as the hose is way too heavy not to be looped through and it's just leaning backwards. The other Eureka I had, it was just one loop into a long plastic holder so there was no re-looping up and above and below.

My hallway is a combo of rug and tiled floor, but it handle the discrepancy with ease cleaning both at the same time. Also the threading of the hose is a hassle because it's so long, but the good part is that it makes it easy to vac the walls as the hose is so long.

So the best way to clean is do all the rugs/floors only and then go back and use the hand held hose. So the functionality is not that great

Otherwise,I would have given it 5 stars just for the great job it does. BTW before I bought this, I spent hours researching the web, including the Big Box stores but this is the best deal because of the free shipping. Unfortunately because I live in Hawaii, the shipping coss are about half of the item, so even if I did find a $25 Eureka vac on Walmart, the shipping was over $17. If you live in the contigous states, they offer 97-cents and store to store shipping so you might get a better deal there. I also believe this is a more powerful vac than the $25 bargain. Final note: I am incredibly lousy at assembling stuff and this one took a long time to put together. And in the end I have two left over small screws because I missed a step, but as long as it's tight its okay. A little muscle was needed to screw in the long screws so if you're a little old lady with arthritis, use an electric philips.

Customer Review: One Word, Beastly
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had my Eureka Lightspeed 4700D for almost a month now, my friend Nick has had his Maxima 4700D for alot longer, about 8 - 9 months I believe. Both of us can attest, THIS is a quality vacuum. Save for one time where my timing belt snapped the day after I bought it, which was completely my fault, the suction was so powerful when I was vacuuming my grandma's room that it sucked up one of my grandma's heavy-duty blankets and caused the belt to snap, I've had zero problems with this thing. It has picked up so much dust, pet hair, and debris off the floors of my house that it's ridiculous. I'm so glad I bought one of these for the downstairs of my house, it actually makes me WANT to clean it at least every other day if I can. Never really had a vacuum do that to me before, that's for sure. **LOL**

Plus, the cord that is attached to the vacuum itself is ridiculously long. I kid you not when I say from the second outlet of my downstairs, the one nearest the entrance door, I was able to clean the staircase from bottom to top and still have a few inches to comfortably place the vacuum upstairs while I went downstairs to pull the plug out of it's socket and bring the cord itself upstairs without any problems. And when cleaning my grandma's bedroom and my bedroom, I was amazed at how might brighter the color got after a few sweeps with the thing, and of course, the blobs of dust and debris that formed in the canister could only be described as "alien-like" because they were so huge. The feather-light weight of the vacuum makes hauling it a crap ton easier too, so bear that in mind when you decide to buy this thing.

There are but a couple flaws, one of them being that the hose, which is multi-function and actually serves as the artery that dust and debris picked up from the brushroll section travels through to get to the canister. You see, this is a brilliant, but flawed design. Mainly due to the fact that the hose keeps falling out of it's respective place. However, just a couple seconds takes care of that. The other being the vents in the front sometimes blowing things around that you want to pick up off the floor. But these are small flaws in an otherwise awesome vacuum. I really have no complaints about it, it's a great machine for 60 bucks. And it's mad easy to replace any part from it. Plus I got a three year warranty on the thing so if anything goes wrong, I can return it and get a new one.

This really is a quality vacuum, and trust me, I have a Eureka Optima that I spent about the same amount to get some 6 years ago now and it's still as powerful as the day I brought it home. Eureka does make a quality product, and you can bet I will be buying another one of these badboys for my room and for the upstairs in general. I have no regrets of buying this thing, considering that it makes me feel good about cleaning my house? Totally I am a fan. Get one for yourself and you'll see the Eureka difference in no time flat.

Customer Review: Good So Far
Summary: 4 Stars

No fires or broken belts so far (three weeks in). But replacing the belt is sure going to be a lot easier to do on this machine - the access panel is on top instead of on the bottom. There is a small clear window that you can view the belt through - I have yet to decide of what benefit it is since a belt is either broken or not. Assembly was very easy. This vac does not have a headlight or automatic carpet height adjustment (there is a dial you must turn). The headlights of past vacs have never helped me so I don't miss that and bending over to turn the dial is certainly not a big deal. Because the brush roller can not be turned off I don't use this vac on my hard floors. The handle for hoisting this vacuum cleaner up is extra nice - rounded and comfortable in your hand. My bed is 10-3/4" off the floor and this vac will not go all the way under it. I used to be able to lower the handle to the flattest position on my last vac and clean all the way under my bed but now I have to attach the long tube with a brush on the end to the hose in order to clean under there. Again, no big deal. This new vac is not quiet but I've heard much worse. I always wear ear plugs when vacuuming anyway. If your vision isn't great you will appreciate the bright yellow color and bold graphics that help you remove and reattach the top of the dirt container so you can get at the filter for cleaning. I kept my old vacuum and it stays permanently in the litter box room. I use it, instead of my nice new one, to do the litter box room floor and also use the hose of the old one for cleaning the filter and inside the dirt container of the new one. To empty the dirt container you need only to hold the container over a trash can and release the hinged door at the bottom. Most stuff falls right out. I take the extra step of removing the filter (a pleated paper cylinder) and using the hose from the old vac I clean the filter and the inside of the dirt container. I do this every time I vacuum - every four or five days. One of my cats has long fluffy fur and there is often a large quantity of her fur hovering around the filter. I comb her every day but I guess the shedding is never-ending. The handle release on this vac is very easy to operate (my last one was so hard to push) so I'm enjoying that. The power on/off is also foot operated and located above the handle release, kind of an awkward arrangement but I'm getting used to it. I'm happy with this vacuum cleaner and have found over the eons that the best course to take with vacuum cleaners is to buy a new one every four years or so. No matter how much you pay for a vacuum cleaner it is not going to work well after a few years, this is apparent from reading Amazon reviews - there are a lot of people who are amazed that their new inexpensive vacuum cleaner out-performs their old Kirby or other high end brand.

Customer Review: Excellent Vacuum with slight annoyances/problems
Summary: 4 Stars

This vacuum has worked impeccable since the first day I have put together. The price for the Eureka 4700 starts at a very affordable price of 50-60 dollar price range. Not bad for a bag less vacuum with a detachable hose for hard to reach places. I have seen a lot of reviews complaining that the bag needs to be emptied a lot. ISN'T THAT A GOOD THING? I mean unless you want a huge industrial vacuum with a humongous interchangeable bag setup that you have to replace every once in a while then I really think it is a good thing. Now if you have a large house it might be more of a wiser choice to pick up a larger vacuum, but I mean i'm not going to buy a mini dirt devil if i own a mansion now am I. I get excited when the vacuum fills up quickly because it means it is picking up a LOT of dirt and other things from your carpet that you can't see. The vacuum doesn't just randomly spit dirt out but the hose that is connected to the base that sucks the dirt from the spinning bristles on the bottom comes out sometimes because it doesn't have a locking mechanism. Instead the hose detaches/connects by pushing it inside a round entrance that is slightly larger then the hose meaning you really have to push the hose in firmly for it not to detach. I had a problem with it when i first owned the vacuum but it became instinct to make sure the hose was firmly in before vacuuming each time.

On the other side the vacuum is very loud and very sensitive. What i mean by sensitive is if you get the bottom bristles stuck on anything like loose carpeting or maybe a phone/computer wire it will break the vacuum belt inside the vacuum cleaner. Now the belts run around 2 for 5 dollars including shipping and amazon sells them at that very price, but it can be a annoyance because you have to do some handy work to get the belt installed again. Not too expert of a installation but does require some tools. There is also no light so sometimes it can be hard seeing what i'm vacuuming in dark corners and which actually was the culprit to my broken belt in the first place.

If the vacuum was more expensive i would of given it just 4 stars but at such a affordable price and no more money spent but maybe 5 dollars a year on replacement belts i decided to give this vacuum a 4 1/2 stars. If it included a light and had a locking mechanism for the hose then i would of rated it 5 but the small replacement plastic dirt carrier casing and the other two come out more because of these defaults.

Customer Review: Great suction but bin fills quickly then it blows dirt all over
Summary: 3 Stars

Hey, I was looking for a good, lightweight and cheap vacuum for my mom and picked up a leftover Black Friday special at Walmart for only $35. It was this Eureka Maxima. I assume it is the same as the other ones reviewed here. We sat on the couch trying to understand the directions and get the scews to go in all the way. Had 6 screws, but got it together. We had just vacuumed with our inexpensive Bissel which we have had for years. We have 8 cats, several with long hair. I went over a big area carpet in the livingroom and was amazed that the dust bin filled up almost immediately after a few passes. Trouble is, as soon as it is full, it starts spitting stuff out somehow if you don't empty it real quick. It picks up stuff better than any vacuum I have ever had, but you have to empty the dust bin a lot and each time, try to clean out the filter, which does not clean out very well. After dumping both outside to avoid getting dust all over my clean floors (and it was about 16 degrees out) I tried pulling hair and stuff out of the filter and knocking it on the cement. Then set it on the counter and more dirt fell out of the filter, so I tapped it on the counter and a ton of dirt piled up. In short, I never did get it real clean, so just put it back in. This is the thing I hate with the Bissel, too-trying to clean the filters and they get dirty fast. Definitely don't use carpet powder fresheners because they clog up the filters (in the Bissel anyway) really fast. So, as a previous reviewer said, when you take it on the hard floor, it creates more of a mess by the blowing dirt, hair, dust bunnies all over up in the air. You really do have to chase them and you do not win. Forget it for hard floors. Also the hose comes loose from where it goes into the machine a lot and the hose extension falls off the machine constantly. Also, we cannot find the crevice tool, but it may have fell out of the box in the car, etc. On the plus side, the carpet looks like new-never seen it look so good. Really has amazing suction. And for $35, is amazing. Great for college kids, etc. I hate emptying the dust bin and filter every 5 or 10 minutes though.
