Customer Review: You get what you pay for...
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this vacuum cleaner at the same time that I was moving into a new place (in March of 2008)- with all the additional spending that's incurred with that, price was my biggest deciding factor in getting a new vacuum cleaner.

There are many things that are very poor about the design of this unit. The main problem is that it blows air out the front of the unit, right where you're vacuuming. I have a LOT of dog hair in my house (a Border Collie and an Australian Shepherd), so I end up chasing mini-tumble weed hair balls all around the floor...

The next major problem is that the dust collection cup is so small that I can't even do the entire house without stopping to empty the cup (it is not a big house). Half of the volume of the cup is taken up by the filter.

The next problem is one that I saw addressed here in quite a few other negative reviews - the motor shuts down when it gets hot, then takes forever to cool down enough to use again. Washing the filter seems to help this, but I don't feel that I should have to wash the filter every time that I use a vacuum cleaner (washing the filter is a very dirty job).

The last problem that I have with this vacuum is one that I've had with many vacuums in the past - when choosing the length of a vacuum cleaner's cord, why do the Designers make it so that when you wrap the cord on the unit's cord hanger, the end of the cord (where the little clip is) comes out in a place that you can't attach it for storage???

I will be upgrading to a different vacuum cleaner as soon as available funds allow...

UPDATE - 01/03/2010 - This lousy vacuum is now on it's last leg. It is super-loud, and has hardly any suction. I have replaced the main filter, taken it apart and cleaned it, all of which hasn't helped. I'm shopping for a replacement right now...

Customer Review: Good Vacuum for a good price.
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this Eureka Lightspeed Vacuum at my local hardware store almost a month ago. Before I buy anything I go online and read reviews to make sure that the product is worth the money I am spending on it. I read allot of reviews on this vacuum in particular, on Amazon and other websites, because of the price point and found mixed reviews everywhere I looked. I decided to buy the vacuum because of the resonable price.

When I got the vacuum home it took about 10 minutes to put together. I did not know what to expect from the vacuum in terms of performance because of the fact that it was so inexpensive and because I had never owned a Eureka before. I LOVE this vacuum, it's lightweight and quiet, cleans dirt that my Kirby misses and that I can't even see, and is easy to clean and maintain.

Pros;

Bagless dustcup that empties from the bottom

only one filter to clean

lightweight

cleans deep down

has a belt view area to make sure the belt is spinning and not broken

comes with extention wand, crevice tool, and duster atachments

It's quiet

Has great suction power

Cons;

No light

short hose

air vents are in front and blow air out VERY powefully (which isn't a huge deal)

Hose gets in the way of the cord when wrapping up the cord

no "bare floor" setting

Overall this is a great vacuum for the price and, in my opinion, is comprable to some of the more expensive models. I've found out that Eureka atachments from other Eureka models fit my vacuum so I now have a second longer extension wand and a "pet paw" turbo brush. I have only had this vacuum for a month so I will update this review with any problems I encounter.

Customer Review: Very good for my needs
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased thru Amazon in January. Wanted to get some use before reviewing. Some of the same smaller problems that other reviewers have noted, I had some of the same. However, for the price, it has been overall really a good vacuum. It did take awhile in putting it together, but once done, it was a easy chore to do the cleaning. Rolls right along, in fact I thought for a bit that it was 'self propelling', but it just moves very easy. Has great suction power. Someone noted they did not like the 'blower-effect' it had, ie: pushing dirt ahead out of the way. My experience is that it actually 'blows' it from corner areas and sucks it right up. The self height adjustment works well. I have carpet and tile mix, and you do not even notice the change. I had a older 'Dirt Devil' that finally died. I did not care for the changing of bags, nor changing a broken belt after about each 4 uses. The Eureka is super lightweight and easy to store. Now, a number of reviewers also mentioned the 'dirt basket and filter'. They are correct in the fact the filter needs to be cleaned often. Do not be misled in thinking you are going to wait until the basket is full. On about the 4th time of use, (basket about half full) it shut down on me. Checked manual, states it has a 'auto shutdown system', (which protects the motor) when the filter or basket is full. Since then I make it a point to clean the filter after each couple of uses. The basket and filter cleaning is a real simple task. I did not find it messy, altho would suggest to do it outside or in a utility room area. I have no pets or bad dirt pileup, but I do live in a desert climate with blowing wind and dust. This vacuum 'sucks' it all up very nicely. So, for the cost of this unit, if I can get a couple years use, I think it is well worth it.

Customer Review: Vacuum is convenient but not the best quality
Summary: 3 Stars

I have owned this vacuum for about 2 years. It has been good and bad.

The good is that I really like that it is bagless and so I'm not wasting money on buying bags all the time. The filter, while expensive to replace (something like $19 at Lowes) can be washed under running water. You just brush off all excess dust, hair, etc., then wash and let dry before placing back in the vacuum. While it was running well, it seemed to pick up lots off dust and hair from carpets. I never really used it very much on hard surfaces (when I did use it it seemed to fling stuff around). Of course, the price is low, so if you don't have much money, this is a vacuum to consider.

The bad is that the receptacle cup never seemed to fit quite tightly in the machine, so if you're sensitive to dust, this isn't for you. It never did very well on hard floors, as I mentioned above. The filter, if you have to replace it (if you break the clips, for example) are not cheap...heck if I bought 3 filters I could've bought a new vacuum. The spinning brush seemed to stop moving and when I tried to get into the machine to replace it, I couldn't get the machine to open up. Again, because of the low cost of the vacuum, it makes it less likely that I'm going to pay someone to fix it. After I noticed that the brush stopped turning, I would occasionally smell a burning rubber smell, which I have to assume was the belt rubbing because it had stretched.

If I only had $59 to spend on a vacuum, I would definitely consider buying this again. However, now I'm moving on to try the Bissel 82H1 Cleanview Helix, which is only $79 and is also bagless.

Customer Review: Does the job
Summary: 4 Stars

I have used this vacuum cleaner a couple of times. So far, for the cheap price I have paid, I think it did a good job.

Here are some negatives:

-No hose-floor vacuum switch as it was in the Optima line of Eureka vacuum cleaners. So, the hose suction is always on whether you use it or not. I would think that it weakens the floor suction power by eating from it.

-The height of the handle is NOT adjustable. I thought it could go up and down to accommodate people with different heights. For me, the fixed height of the handle is fine. I am average (5' 9''). Others might find it discomfortable.

-As some reviewers said, the motor at the front blows the dirt laying around (Not just on the ground but also on furnitures).

A few good points:

+Suction is Ok for me. It does pick up dirt. But I don't have to empty the dust compartment everytime I use, like some others mentioned. The chamber is large enough to become filled after 5-7 usages. By the way, I clean my little condo every 1-2 week.

+Less noisy than I expected. The Optima that belonged to my former roommate was a lot noisier than this. I was suprised with that. As a comparison, my blender even in the lowest setting creates more discomfort than that.

+The dust cup bottom release is a nice feature. Optima didn't have it. So, you don't have to open the lid of the dust cup to empty the dust.

+Surprisingly, I liked the light at the front. I can vacuum in low light areas of the condo during the day without turning the lights on.

I will update my review after more usage.
