Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka LightSpeed Upright Vacuum, Bagless, 4700DCustomer Review: Easy to put together, lightweight, most of all POWERful Summary: 5 Stars
Old Dirt Devil upright suffered a broken hose a few weeks ago so used it as an excuse to get a new vac. The Dirt Devil was heavy, bulky and had too many parts. Couldn't tell you how many times I stubbed my toe on the thing The Eureka 4700B is an awesome vacuum. I just put together and cleaned about five rooms today. Lightweight easy to maneuver and best of all powerful. My wife was able to easily move it around with one hand. I picked it up with ease. (note to vacuum companies - the lighter the vacuum the better - no one needs the added weight of headlights, etc.) This vac picks up everything on all terrains, carpet, hardwood. Comes with extension tube for hose, crevice device and brush attachment. Everything works as advertised and thus far packs and transports well - everything on the Dirt Devil used to fall off. A bonus: If you have one of those magic brush attachments on your old vacuum (great on furniture) it will probably fit on the hose of the Eureka. I connected the attachment from my Dirt Devil anbd it worked even better than on the original unit. Favorite part about the unit thus far is the trash cannister. Particles collect really nicely in this unit and when ready to empty everything pretty much slides right out. No mess - which was a problem with the Dirt Devil. I know it has been a day but so far very very good. If you are in the market for a vac and don't want to spend a ton, this might be a match made in heaven, well done Eureka.
Customer Review: Great compromise between quality, performance, and price. Summary: 5 Stars
I've been living in my apartment for 2 nearly months before I realized I had "overlooked" the fact that I don't have a vacuum cleaner. So I looked around online at reviews and etc. I ended up with this vacuum.
First of all, when I moved in, the apartment did a fantastic job cleaning up, the carpet had been shampooed and cleaned. I also do not wear shoes inside. So to the naked eye...my carpet looked pretty clean...no dirt, visible blemishes...etc.
I bought this vacuum from Fry's, they were running an online special for $47.99. Assembly was pretty straight forward. My first impression was at how light this thing was. It didn't feel cheap and flimsy...but still light.
Anyway, I vacuumed my entire apartment including the hard floor areas. As mentioned above to the naked eye...my floors looked reasonably clean, so you can imagine my surprise when I turned it off and took the filter out...it was full. Kind of gross really but it shows how well this thing works on carpet with nothing visible on it.
For those of you who say this vacuum has weak suction, you obviously have a defective product or simply didn't assembly it properly. Or the simplier reason is probably that you're used to a more powerful expensive vacuum.
For the performance you get and the price you pay...this thing is a steal.
I haven't owned it that long but I'll edit my review should anything come up!
Customer Review: Things change. Summary: 3 Stars
There seems to be a disagreement about the presence of a HEPA filter on the Maxima. I have a 5-year old Eureka Maxima (which in fact, I bought from Amazon and received within 24 hours with free shipping - kudos Amazon!). This unit has the same NAME but is a completely DIFFERENT design. The old one (mine) DOES have a HEPA filter and the air comes out the side fairly calmly. The new one does not have a HEPA filter so it is out of consideration - period. My old style unit works pretty good. The only reason I'm looking to replace it is that the cord hook broke off when it fell down some stairs after I tripped over the cord; my fault - not its' :(
Side note: ANY vacuum with a never-before-used filter will pick up TONS of dirt your old one left behind - for about 3 minutes. The only way you will repeat the performance is to put another brand-new filter (or bag) in it. Abner Oreck used that fact disingenuously on his TV commercials for years to sell the Oreck XL (which I also used to have and it was the most useless thing ever, not to mention the loudest) when he said "we give you an extra filter, vacuum first with your existing vacuum, then vacuum with ours and cut open the extra filter and see what yours missed". What he didn't mention is if you then immediately vacuum with your existing vacuum AGAIN, but use a NEW filter this time and you'll get another pile of stuff both of them missed. Rinse, repeat.
Customer Review: Designed by Chimps? Summary: 1 Stars
This product is crap. The design is so poor that one is left in disbelief that anyone got away with this let alone got paid for this rotten design. The exhaust is in the front of the vac and blows the dirt around like tumbleweeds in the wind. Oddly, it seems to leave a lot of dirt on the floor, but is great at sucking up heavy things that are adjacent to it such as curtains, rugs, tablecloths- they may be a half a foot away when suddenly they are consumed! Vacuming with this is very stressful as one watches the dirt blow around yet is constantly having to turn it off and yank the curtains from being wrapped around the beater bar. Oh, and why are the curtains always getting wrapped so completely around the beater bar? Because the chimp that designed this thing put the on off switch right next to the handle release switch so as one is hurridly trying to shut it off before it fully engorges itself on one drapes, the handle release switch, which is in the way, is the switch a hurried frantic foot starts pushing to try to power off the machine. The power cord is too short, the cord wrap system is inadequate, and the brush accessory falls off so often that one might as well keep it in a junk drawer. And as for parts falling off the machine- the suction hose constantly falls out of the vac head. A truely disappointing machine and a waste of money.
Customer Review: So far so good Summary: 4 Stars
After 10+ years of dragging our old canister type vacuum up and down stair, I had a brain storm and decided to get another vacuum I could keep upstairs. I had wanted a Dyson upright vacuum but they are very expensive. I can't really spend $300-$400 on a vacuum. It's not like it comes with someone to actually do the vacuuming for that price.
One vacuum people liked was Eurek 47004 Maxima. It's bright yellow, upright, lightweight and bagless. They thought it worked as well as the expensive Dyson for much cheaper price at $60. But of course, none of my local store had one. So for the first time in my life I ordered a vacuum from online from Amazon. It came in about two weeks, all packed in one box. It only took a few minutes to assemble it. There were only 6 screws to use to secure the different sections together.Friends and I have assembled more complicated things than this.
I gave it quick test drive right away. It was easy to use, and did a great job vacuuming the rug. One catch is it's best to empty out the dust collector and clean the filter after each use. But that only took a few minutes to do.
I want to use a few more times and try the attachments too. But if it works out I may get another one for the upstairs and ditch the old vacuum all together. For $60 my back is very thankful.
