Tools and Hardware Reviews of Eureka LightSpeed Upright Vacuum, Bagless, 4700DCustomer Review: It blows things away... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this 4700D vacuum last week. It was my first bagless vacuum.
Assembly was easy. Tried it out and found some good and bad things.
It was lighter than my old upright by Hoover. Not too noisy, suction is good, maneuver was very easy.
After a few minute trials, I noticed the bad things: the frontal exhaust vents blow strong air that blow everything in front of the vacuum path away that instead of vacuum the dust, it stirs up all the dust in the air!!! I called the company line; I was told that was by design, not a good design though. The lady told me to get one with exhaust at the back so things would not be blown a way.
Then I checked the dust bin. The dirt was easy to get out from the bottom lid; but the filter was already clogged. No easy way to clean it up. I tried to shake the dirt off, the dusty air made me sneeze unstoppable. Not sure if that's the common problem or just this one.
Customer Review: Great price, not worth it now..... Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this vacuum less than a year ago at Sears. I should have known to take it back when I used it on the hard floor and it would spit dirt out from the back. So I started only using it for the rugs, and it wasn't too much of a problem. Now I live in a place with all carpet and it barely sucks the cat hair up!
Tomorrow will be the second time I will take it to Sears and have them repair it. They ship it to another city to fix and it takes takes several weeks before you get it back. The first time this happened it was not such a big deal since I had hard floors, I mainly used it for the rugs. Now with the carpet and pet hair - this will be a disaster for our winter allergies.
I am considering selling it once it is repaired, especially since it's still under warranty and the repair *should be* free. Even though the price, lighweight, and bagless features attracted me at first, this machine is pathetic.
Customer Review: Was ok at first Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this item after doing research on this site and looking at various reviews. It was really great when we first got it two (maybe 3) years ago. We had a dog at the time and I think picking up his hair (not to mention the cats') really did a number on it from the get go. It is not always easy to push on our rugs and that makes it tiring. The other thing is, this was our first experience with a bagless, and I actually think it is more of a pain to use than the bagged kind. You have to clean the filter and that involves actually washing it. So you can't use your vacuum until that dries out. Then to replace the filter is anywhere between $16 and $20 per filter, which is another pain, and not every store carries it. The vacuum is so cheap now (because it's an old model at this point), it's not even worth continually buying a filter for that cost. I am now in the market for a new vac, perhaps a canister model--definitely bagged.
Customer Review: Not a bad vacuum for the price Summary: 4 Stars
To replace our aging canister vacuum with an upright, I was perusing the various brands and models, saw the Eureka 4700 and decided to go with that.
Assembly was straightforward with just a few screws, and upon turning it on for the first time, was impressed with the suction power on both the regular and shag rugs as well as the bare floors. The power hose attachment doesn't transmit as much vacuum as I'd like, but seems to be adequate for sucking up the detritus from under the kitchen counters and getting rid of cobwebs from wall corners. Like other reviewers have stated, the filter really needs to be rinsed after each use as it will reduce the vacuum's effectiveness if you don't, but it's a simple enough task by using the sprayer from your kitchen sink, and the dirt canister means no more replacing bags.
All in all this unit has thus far performed adequately, and for the price, I can't complain.
Customer Review: The Best Vacuum I've Purchased! Summary: 4 Stars
I love this vacuum. I have a dirt devil vacuum, which keeps losing suction. It is currently in the repair shop. The Eureka 4700A has a washable filter, which I love. No more buying high-priced filters. It picks up dirt, dog hair, etc. It has a light, which shines bright for night time vacuuming. The auto height adjuster is great. It vacuums on carpet and floors. The only thing about this vacuum I don't like is that it doesn't have enough on-board tools for other cleaning jobs around the house. I will use some of my tools, which came with my dirt devil vacuum for other cleaning jobs. It really deep cleans and makes the carpet look like new. I would purchase this vacuum cleaner instead of a dirt devil. In the past, I have owned several vacuums, from several name brand companies, and this is the best by far. Good purchase. No taxes, shipping and it is shipped directly to the purchaser. One stop shopping, can't beat that.
