Tools and Hardware Reviews of Factory Reconditioned Expand-It ZR15518 Edger Attachment For String Trimmers

Customer Review: Not Worth the Money!!
Summary: 1 Stars

My main reason for buying this tool was that I usually will buy a factory reconditioned tool for the savings. In this case it was not worth it. I purchased this tool a couple of weeks ago and promptly returned it after about an hour of frustration and not being able to get it to do what it was supposed to do. The curb guide referred to in another response was the main culprit. I am not inclined to remove anything that is attached to a tool because the manufacturer puts it there for a reason. I also found that the blade continues to rotate for what I thought was an unsafe time after the power head was turned off. See my review of the Poulon Pro Edger Attachment for Trimmers #PP1000E, and spend a few dollars more for something that really works out of the box.

Customer Review: Holding pin not long enough
Summary: 1 Stars

I am disappointed with this product. I bought this for my Ryobi 725r. It matches up exactly, and is supposed to be compatible, but the spring-loaded pin that holds the attachment in place is not long enough, and tightening the wheel clamp did little to keep it from rotating when operating. I had to use a C-clamp to rig it so it would stay in place. Also, it had uneven vibration, and the metal curb guide bent after a few minutes. I was unable to finish the edging of my .23 acre yard before it overheated the engine. Also it is heavy... I would much rather stick to using the string trimmer. In face, it might be better to just buy the straight-shaft attachment if you have the curved one like I do.

Customer Review: Factory Reconditioned. NEVER again!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this item for a friend. It does not work and without spending money to have it fixed, I just lost $50.00~! I took the item to TWO service shops and was told the ball bearing was bad...the item is unoperable....additionally,the blade shown pictured was a common straight edge and I rec'd some strange "tilling" type blade...this was supposed to be a simple straight edge, yard edger...IF I can return the product that would be ok, but it is going to take unsurmountable time/effort to take care of everything. NEVER again will I buy from Amazon anything used or factory reconditioned.
Disgruntled and unhappy in Florida.

Customer Review: Broken on First Use
Summary: 1 Stars

Used for a short time for the first edging of my house lot. I waited to use it until the soil was soft and moist from some rain. I was careful to not overload it because I was skeptical of the durability of a cable drive. I did not expect it to fail on the first day! The blade stopped driving. Either the cable broke or the gears stopped driving because I could turn the cable but the blade would not rotate. The Recon unit appeared to have been new so the design must be weak. Had to return ship the broken unit. CPO did their best and shipped me a replacement on warranty but I have no confidence the replacement will be better.

Customer Review: Does the job, but hard on the back
Summary: 3 Stars

The Expand-It Edger works great. I definitely prefer this type of edger vs the 4 wheel big engine kind. The only thing I really dislike about it is the shaft is too short. I am 5'6" and you may notice in some images online, the average height person needs to hold the edger below waist height in order for the guide and blades to cut properly. After about 20 minutes my back was killing me. I started working with a weight belt, which helps a little - but ideally they should have designed the attachment with an extra foot of length (or varible length would have been great!)
