Nothing against the edger attachment itself. Since it was factory reconditioned I expected a few blimishes but.. this thing still had grass and stuff matted on blades!!. I was shocked that it was not even cleaned up before shipping. I gave this as a xmas gift without even opening box so needless to say I was embarrassed when the gift was opened and the product looked freshly used!!. The edger seems to work great and their was a few blemishes on edger but for factory reconditioned, it was shotty, looked more like I bought it at a yardsale.Customer Review: Killed my Craftsman

I purchased this item to use with my Craftsman string trimmer. Unit connected as easily as expected and spun up with no effort. Immediately after making contact with the soil it would stop. I tried to disconnecting and reconnecting it to make sure I was "doing it right". After three attempts I realized it would not work. Problem is, neither will my trimmer now. The engine runs fine but the head will not spin. This unit killed my trimmer so now I have to buy a new trimmer. This Homelite Expand-It Edger Attachment was not compatible with my Troy-Bilt 4-cycle string trimmer, in spite of being advertised as a "universal" attachment. The flexible drive shaft was too short to mate securely with the drive nut in the Troy-Bilt unit, resulting in the cutting blade's stopping under any sort of load. After conferring with Homelite's customer service department, I returned the attachment to Amazon.
I cannot speak for how well the attachment might work with other brands of string trimmers.

I think I got a great price on this item and it seems to work well so far except the first time I used it the wheal fell off because the way it is attached to the axel with a cheap press on cap. I had to drill a hole through the axel and insert a cotter pin to prevent this from happening. You would expect to be able to use this equipment at least a few times before it fell apart. For me it was an easy fix so I kept it instead of going through the hassel of returning it.Customer Review: Not for Ryobi

This is not universal. The alignment is off center for my Ryobi trimmer and the edger attachment is on an angle.. Yes - I tried all the hole alignments. Hard to believe that this would not align with one of the popular name brands. I am guessing this was reconditioned because it is a factory error and no one thinks to check that it is mis-aligned. Someone else will get this as a reconditioned unit in a few weeks, would be my guess.
