True - this has been "evaulated" by the EPA. You can NOT use them in a real estate transactions. You can't even sell these in some states. So beware, you are not getting a $4000 Radon Measurement device for $120. You are getting a device that I think is probably good for a homeowner. Eleven dollar charcoal canisters are approved for real estate transactions.
Description of PRO 2 Safety Siren Radon Gas Detector Model HS78512
Pro Series II Radon Gas Detector with ionization sensor and 85db audible alarm is the only electronic radon gas alarm designed for home use. Plug in radon detector and continuous radon monitoring begins. Short-term and long-term average radon level displays after 48 hours. Mutable, audible radon alarm of 85db at 10cm. Beeps hourly if long-term radon levels are 4pCi/L or greater. Accuracy is +/-20%pCI/L. Displays up to 999 pCi/L. About Radon: Radon is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless radioactive gas produced by the uranium breaking down in soil. Accumulations of over 4pCi/L are a long-term health hazard. Only cigarette smoking causes more lung cancer deaths than radon. Home radon levels can vary from safe to dangerous levels and back to safe due to humidity, temperature and season. EPA currently advises corrective action to reduce radon levels below 4 pCi/L (4 Pico-Curies per liter). Sensitive test equipment is required to detect radon gas. Features: Numeric LED display range of 0to 999 in pCi/L shows short-term and long-term levels of radon gas. Short-term: readings over past 7 days. Long-term: readings of average radon levels since powered-up or last reset (maximum of 5 years). Audible alarm sounds if the long-term average reaches 4 pCi/L or greater. Samples air continuously with hourly updated display. Self-tests every 24 hours. Error code display if fails self-test. Menu button controls 4 manual functions. Switch between short-term and long-term displays, green LED illuminates next to S (short-term) or L (long-term). Test the radon detector. Mute or reactivate audible alarm if radon detector is in alarm state. Clear and reset the radon alarm memory. 10' power cord: locate detector away from walls, windows and doors.
