Customer Review: A Waste of Money

I bought this for a small motorhome. It doesn't seem to work at all! It hums and makes noises, but does nothing to eat odors. I have rotated it around, dismantled it and made sure it was put together right, but it just doesn't remove any odors. I've even tried it in the bathroom, right over the waste can which usually has dirty tissue in it. It does nothing to remove the odors, it's easier to open the window to air out the bathroom than to wait for this gadget to do any work.
It is advertised right here on Amazon as:
"Febreze brand compact plug-in odor removal appliance removes odors throughout the home - plugs into any 120 v outlet - quiet & discrete with a low cost carbon filter that lasts up to 120 days - removes pet odors , tobacco odors and odors from bathrooms , bedrooms, kitchens , and closets .
I can tell you it does NOT remove pet odors nor tobacco odors. You have to buy special filters for either one. They don't seem to make a filter that works on ALL odors, so if you use the tobacco filter, you smell the bathroom, if you use the pet filter, you smell the tobacco.
Don't waste your money on this. The filters they advertise as cheap are anything but cheap.
FeBreze should take their name off this product, it's a huge waste of money and space. Also the plug doesn't rotate, so it won't work in many of my sockets.

-The Gist: We just got a new puppy, and this device seems to remove spot odors very well. We have strong puppy odor that collects around the stairwell and the kitchen. Once turned on and left for a few hours it seems to completely remove the odor. I highly recommend this for people with odor "hotspots".
-Also of note: I bought this item from a local Target store, however they are no longer sold under Febreze name. If you go to the Febreze website, you will not find this item. The original item was and still is manufactured by Hamilton Beach. It is now called Hamilton Beach TrueAir, and if you order it from Target through Amazon, you might actually get the Hamilton Beach branded appliance. Just know that they are the same. The replacement filters now even state "Also works with Febreze TrueAir Appliance".
-Technicals: The actual device works by sucking air through the primary faceplate in the front through an activated carbon filter. Then the air is blown out to the left of the unit through a side port. The device states 0,14 Amp power usage so it should be pretty energy efficient. Also, a convenient switch on the right side allows you to easily turn it on and off. The device itself sits on the AC socket with stability. However, I doubt it will work very well on a sideways socket.

Febreze's plug-in odor remover is bigger than my clock radio. Compared to other filters in my home, though, it's quite compact. It's not hard to find space for it on a wall outlet.
I've had this thing running for a couple of weeks and I am very pleased with it. It does a great job of knocking out odors before they have a chance to fester and become a lingering problem. I was worried I might have to replace filters really frequently, but I'm only a quarter through my first filter according to the handy indicator, so that's better performance than I was expecting. My favorite thing about this filter, though, is how quiet the fan is. I can't hear it unless I'm straining my ears for it. Would that the other odor removing plug-in that uses Hamilton Beach filters were this quiet. If you're trying to decide between the two, I highly recommend investing the little bit of extra cash in this one.

I have been singing the praises of this little device since I first plugged it in. I bought it for the kitchen but, found that the outlet space was a little to small. So, I made room for it in the bathroom. Am I ever glad I did. That thing will NEVER leave the bathroom again! When you're finished in the bathroom, there is NO odor. Great for having guests over during the holidays. You know how there is always ONE who really lights up the bathroom? If you don't know, then you're probably the one I'm talking about. Anyway, the odor removal appliance works great for those special events. It's a great investment. It doesn't cover odors, it ELIMINATES them! Even when we spray our fragrance in the bathroom, the smell never leaves the room. I can't say enough about it. Okay, I can. And, I'll wrap it up here. Buy it, you won't be sorry. I never write reviews but I was so impressed with this product that I just had to type something up.
I recently moved into a new studio apartment in Manhattan. There was a lingering smell -- what I think was smoke from a neighbor or previous tenant -- that I could not get rid of no matter how much I cleaned.
I decided to give an air purifier a try. After spending over $100 and not getting any significant results, I gave this product a try. Within 1 day of plugging it in, the odor had significantly decreased. By the 3rd day, it was completely gone. It's been about a month now and the odor remains gone.
What I love most about this product is that it really does eliminate odors as opposed to covering them up with some "perfumey" smell. And, the price is right.
