Tools and Hardware Reviews of Feit Electric ESL40TN/D 42-Watt Compact Fluorescent High-Wattage Bulb, DaylightCustomer Review: Bright as daylight! Summary: 5 Stars
Just got these today, so can't comment on longevity issues. They are instant-on without a flicker, but they take a couple of minutes to get up to full output. But once they are on, they are ON!!! I'm using them in my basement, and if you view the light from the top of the stairs you would swear it was natural sunlight. These are very bright and are perfect for my particular application - would probably be great for a garage or workshop too. Probably not suitable for use in a lamp (unless it's huge and you want sunlight-type light rather than soft white), definitely not suitable for use in an overhead light fixture. Overall I'm very pleased with the product, including its price. Also - mine arrived promptly (2 days with Prime shipping) and in perfect condition.
Customer Review: Natural Light? Are you kidding? Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this bulb because I needed a very bright, warm light for our living room. The description of this bulb - "simulating natural light", and "uplifting and bright light", made me think this was the one. While it IS bright, it looks like it belongs in a dismal hospital room. The light is very WHITE and very BLEAK. Nothing like a full-spectrum bulb, or even like a 'soft white' bulb.
I am trying desperately to find a decent CFL that has good light quality AND lasts more than a couple months...but I'm growing tired. Hoping that the next-gen LED bulbs can get over these challenges, because this environmentalist is going broke and becoming impatient with CFL's.
Customer Review: Huge size, huge light output. Summary: 5 Stars
Well, this is not a petite little bulb, and I would suggest anyone that wants one to check the dimensions before you buy -- won't fit in any enclosures where there is a tight space for the bulb to fit into. That said, for my application (lighting a kitchen from a ceiling fixture), it works perfectly. The light output is very, very bright, and very, very blue -- it really does nearly perfectly emulate bright sunlight. It lights up our kitchen very well -- one bulb can light up several hundred square feet.
Overall, great product, great price, and great light output, but it's a little large in size. Not necessarily a downside, but be aware.
Customer Review: Very Bright Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased 2 of these about a month ago. I have them in simple clamp lights that are designed to hold a 60 watt bulb.
The output of light is amazing-- they fully light up the space that they are in
The quality of light is on the blue side
They come on quickly having no discernable warm up delay
These are large bulbs and probably would not fit in many standard light fixtures
Unlike other reviewers, I have experienced no defects with these bulbs. I have purchased similar bulbs by different manufactures and have had problems with them but these bulbs are functioning quite well.
Customer Review: Very Bright Light Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered these and some Alzo 45 watt CFL 5500K. The Feit bulbs came first so I used them first. They were very bright, in fact, too bright for me. I was hoping for a more pure white light so I was disappointed with the bluish light. The following day the Alzo bulbs came in. I changed the Feit bulbs out with the Alzo bulbs and they were just what I was looking for in a CFL. They turned on quickly (as did these Feit bulbs) but also were a pure white light like I've never seen in a CFL before. I've moved these Feit bulbs in the other room for kitchen duty. They are now in the fixture above my sink and they do a fine job there.
