Tools and Hardware Reviews of 2x4basics 14429 Workbench and Shelving Storage System with Hooks and ClampsCustomer Review: Simple and awesome Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished putting it together and wow this thing is just totally awesome for the money. a ROCK SOLID 4' x 8' workbench for under $200 after buying the wood. You just can't beat that....
I saw some other reviewers complaining it just wasn't that easy to put together. I am a computer geek for a living so I'm certainly not the handiest person in the world. This thing took me a little longer to put together than it might have for someone a little more experienced but if you just measure twice cut once and use your head there is nothing HARD about it... time consuming maybe, hard no.
If you really expect a build it yourself workbench made out of 2x4's and huge sheets of particle board to be a piece of cake to put together perhaps you should go buy yourself one thats already put together.
This is a great workbench and I plan on buying more shelf links to replace the rest of the shelving in my garage.
Oh, its also probably not a bad idea to make sure you build it pretty close to where you ultimately want it to be because this sucker is HEAVY when its done!
Great product, would certainly recommend it to someone else!!!!!!!!
Customer Review: great bench... and pretty easy to do... Summary: 5 Stars
I first bought one of these kits to make a workbench for my daughter to do silversmithing on. I was so pleased with the quality and sturdiness that I bought another to build a bench for my wife to use as a potting bench out in the garden shed. They are VERY surdy. I would caution you to be sure to put the shelves in place before you put everything together as you wuld not be able to do it after you have all the 2x4s in place. I used the shelf brackets in my garage to make the very best storage shelves that I have ever had. The shelves I built are 6 feet wide and 8 feet tall and VERY sturdy. The kits go together pretty easily but you definitely need a drill with a phillips head screwdriver bit. I guess you could drive the screws by hand if you are Popeye the Sailor but there are a lot of screws. I have modest home handyman skills and this kit made a product that is far better than if I had tried to bang together a bench without it. They are so good that I am looking around to see it there is anywhere else that I need to put a bench!! Check around before buying them because they are available at a couple of different prices but I am pretty sure they are all the same.
Customer Review: Great Workbench! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a 53 year old woman that enjoys working on small wood projects. Thought it would be good to have a real workbench. I had researched and found several plans to build one from scratch. Then came across this one on Amazon. It looked simple enough to put together and the reviews were good. My concern was the stability of the workbench.
I assembled the workbench by myself with no problems at all. It was much easier than I imagined. The workbench is very stronge, sturdy and looks great. I am very happy with it.
After assembling the first one, I ordered another one as I needed a cutting table for my sewing room and thought this would be perfect. I spent more time assembling the second one as I had to sand the wood and stain it. I then painted the legs an off white color because I didn't want it to look like a garage workbench. I then purchased lined baskets to go on the second and third shelves to hold my sewing accessories such as scissors, threads, etc. The result: It is beautiful! I have had so many compliments on it.
I highly recommend the purchase of this item. It just doesn't get any better than this.
Customer Review: Create a great work station in no time for your kitchen Summary: 5 Stars
This is advertised as a kit to help create a workstation for a garage or workshop, but my wonderful boyfriend made an AWESOME kitchen unit with the parts and it looks great.
We have a kitchen with limited counter space and little storage. I am an avid cook so I lamented about how I wish our kitchen was more cook-friendly. For Christmas last year he made me a wonderful kitchen workstation with storage using this kit.
He used the shelving brackets to make 2 overhead shelves to store our microwave, cookbooks, ingredients jars, etc. The counter is a giant butcher block from IKEA with plenty of space to prep and work AND to keep my food processor, Kitchenaid mixer and slow-cooker. Below I have 2 HUGE shelves for bakeware, mixing bowls, cookie sheets, muffin tins, pie pans and serving trays. I added little hooks to hold my most used prep tools for quick access.
It has made cooking a delight and not a crowded chore. I recommend this kit to anyone looking for a strait-forward solution to not having enough room to groove.
Customer Review: Solid & Inexpensive Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this shortly after I bought a house for general projects (ah, the joys of owning a house) and tuning skis. I would have loved to make it 4'x8', but did not have the space, so I made it 3'x5' (the leftovers from the plywood sheet can make one of the shelves under the work surface: 3'x4' + 1'x3'), used the shelf links to make two shelves above it, and put a light under the bottom shelf. I used 3/4" plywood for the work surface and one of the shelves underneath the work surface and 1/2" plywood for the other shelf. Total lumber costs (for the shelf links and the work bench) were about $70. It was easy to put together using only a circular saw and drill. The finished product is very solid -- I have no qualms about standing on it to access the top shelf or the attic door in the roof of my garage. My only note of caution concerns attaching a bench clamp to the edge of the work bench: make sure the clamp is large enough to go around a 2x4 (the clamps that come with the bench seem nice but have not been overly useful).
