Tools and Hardware Reviews of 2x4basics 14429 Workbench and Shelving Storage System with Hooks and ClampsCustomer Review: Great product!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was certainly in need of a new workbench when I came across this product. I figured I'd give it a whirl as I wasn't sure what size bench I wanted and this you can make any size you want. It was kind of tricky building the thing inside of my 8x10 shed, would've been easier if I had someone to help. It took about 2 hours to build it the way I wanted it and it did come out looking nice and EXTREMELY sturdy!! I used 1/2" plywood on the bottom 2 shelves and 3/4" ply on the top shelf (I didn't use the diagonal 2x4 for support). When completed you will have 11" of space between the bottom shelves (high enough to get my Milwaukee saw with it's HUGE case into) and 8 1/2" between the middle shelf and the top. This kit also comes with brackets to build 2 shelves above or beside your bench. I opted to build one shelf above my bench. I have shown this bench to people and they really like it, I know I love it!!
Customer Review: Very Strong Workbench Summary: 5 Stars
I built my workbench 6 x 2.5 FT. I used 1/2 plywood for the bottom shelf and 3/4 plywood for the middle and work surface. The result is a very strong workbench. Note that the vertical space between shelfs is small (bottom: 11 1/4", middle: 8 1/2") so I modified my workbench by doing the middle shelf halfway (see customer image). I used some galvanized brackets to support this modification. As a result I now have 23 3/4" of vertical clearance on one side of the workbench. This allows me to fit big items like a compressor. I had all the 2x4's and plywood cut at my local home depot which I highly recommend to ensure that the measurement are very exact.
PRO:
-Strength
-Cost: Around $150 (wood, pegboard, and brackets) + kit
-Easy to build
-Usability
CONS:
-Legs do not have leveling feet so you must improvise to make it level if your garage or shop floor is not leveled
Customer Review: BEWARE! Summary: 1 Stars
This company is the worst and lacking greatly in customer service department. I advise you to purchase from any other seller than this one. I buy everything on Amazon (even have a rewards card because i purchase so much) I never have i encountered a company who is less helpful. BEWARE! I ordered my 2 x 4 basics on the 28th of Nov. and still have not received as of the 30th of Dec. Was told order would be shipped by the 14th of Dec., but they have yet put my 2x4 basics in route. I contacted seller and explained that i ordered this product well in advance to reach me in time for Christmas. Their response lacked empathy to my ruined Christmas present and curtly replied that it was on back order and nothing could be done. I am still waiting for my order and sportsman guide could care less. Again i have never received such poor customer service and would highly recommend using another company than this one.
Customer Review: Great product ~~~ Summary: 5 Stars
You can make a huge bench out of this, but when you do, you have to plan your steps of what to do first wisely, especially if you are working on it solo, it can get quite heavy once completed. I made one that is full size and had to make midway supports from the rear and front of the bench inbetween the shelvings b/c the 2x4's would slightly bend under all the weight over time, but it can be quickly corrected, all I had to use was an extra 2x4, and some straight brackets to fasten the supports. It is an awesome bench though, I even walked on it to see if it really is as tough as people say, and I am not a small guy (250lbs) (it really is tough), it would not even move or sway in any way, it was as steady as a rock. This bench can be put together in about an hour if you have everything ready and all the tools handy. #1 Product, I will buy more in the future
Customer Review: Great DIY solution Summary: 5 Stars
Built garage workbench in previous home using metal corner ties in kit from Home Depot. Worked OK, but was never as strong as I would have liked. This solution is far superior and allows for easy customization of your workspace design vs. pre-fabbed workbenches. I used an 8' laminate countertop as my work surface and omitted the middle shelf configuration so I could store taller stuff on the bottom shelf, plus added pegboard on the wall above. Used the additional shelving brackets to build a smaller gardening workbench next to my washtub sink in the garage. Even the professional construction guys who have seen the results are impressed. Spent less than $200 for all materials, and took less than a couple of hours to assemble. Plastic legs are solid and fully believe they can support 500+ pounds...more than I'd ever need on the work surface.
