Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert 2025F Anti-Theft Safe, 0.28 Cubic Foot, GrayCustomer Review: Cheap safe, hard to game Summary: 5 Stars
I need a safe that can actually keep visitors out of the credit cards and pharmaceuticals. I previously ordered the Neiko Fit Anywhere safe. The safe worked flawlessly. The problem was that the safe had a lock that was intended to open the safe when the batteries failed in the digital key pad. The lock, however, was easily picked with a paper clip!. The First Alert branded safe has a more sophisticated lock system. The first line of defense is the digital keypad. Just follow the directions to program the number combo you want. You can also use a letter A or B. But to actually open the safe you have to input the correct password and have the key to actually open the door. Pay attention here. The safe comes with one Master key that will bypass the keypad. You use that when the batteries run out or you lose the password. But for daily use you use the other key. This key has a large black grip. This key is used in combination with the keypad. This black key will not open the safe without the right combo. So the safe has a keypad plus a key. The lock is hard to pick. I don't think an amateur pill-popping locksmith could do it.
I looked into all of the smaller safes on Amazon. I did not want to spend $500 on a simple safe. All I wanted was a safe which was impossible for someone to pick the master lock. I believe this safe fits the requirement. It was packed well and arrived in perfect condition. It comes with Panasonic batteries (AA, two standard keys and one master key. The instructions were clear and simple. There is a tiny non-LED light on the edge of the door. When you open the door and reach along the back where the hinge is, there is a switch for light. It is not automatic. It really does not illuminate well unless you are in total darkness.
On the negative side the safe comes with four rubber feet. The feet are supposed to bolt into pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the safe. The holes are too small and the bolts bind. The feet do stay on, however. They just don't screw in correctly. A minor glitch is the sales sticker on the front of the door. It tells of the features of the safe. The sticker unfortunately uses really sticky glue. The label tears off leaving paper fuzz all over the front of the door. A wet cloth and lots of rubbing will remove the paper and glue.
This is not a real safe. It is not meant to be. It is a lock box. It is not fire resistant. You can bolt it to a shelf or floor to keep someone from walking off with it. Overall it should do what I want it to.
