Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert 2037F Fire and Water File Chest, 0.62 Cubic Foot, GrayCustomer Review: Do not underestimate this thing... Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is a monster. I guarantee you will underestimate it's size and weight. This is not the safe in which granny should put her savings bonds, stock certificates and anything she might want to mess with more than once every few months, mainly because granny will want to be able to move it and will likely break her hip in the process. Plan on putting it somewhere where it will not be in the way, but is easily accessible - this isn't a safe that is designed to be carted around the house every other day, which is great for me because I got it to replace my $45 per year safe deposit box that I went to once or twice a year.
I am pleasantly surprised with this safe, and would recommend it to anyone who has to protect, among other things, full size papers without having to fold or bend them, and is not needing to get in it on a daily basis. If you need something for daily use, find something smaller.
Customer Review: First Time junk from Amazon Summary: 1 Stars
Always comfortable buying from amazon - i didn't believe the unfavorable comments on this product - when it arrived i understood why it
s not well rated - the package arrived in poor condition (very flimsy) the safe looks like it was dropped because several corners and damaged - when i opened the safe there was a very moldy smell - even the rosin bag was wet - there were no keys - the instructions on the safe were very wet and smelled and there was some kind of brown junk on the instructions - immediately called the number on the instructions - the company said it was amazon's problem and gave me the wrong number for amazon - finally called amazon and was promised a replacement with free next day shipping - but now i have to lug this big piece of dead weight around to a ups office - awful item - i hope the replacement is in order
disappointed
Customer Review: Hopefully it's worth its weight Summary: 3 Stars
People weren't kidding when they warned that this safe is heavy. I couldn't even get it into my apartment. Luckily, the UPS man was really nice and offered to carry it in for me. One downside was that like others had mentioned, the safe was shipped poorly. The box it was packaged in was falling apart. The bottom almost fell out when the UPS guy picked it up. The box had obviously come open at some point because it had been re-taped (also in a poor fashion). I was worried that the safe was damaged, but thankfully it wasn't. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a handle and is rather large, but at least it will hold enough of my documents. I was pleased to find that my laptop also fits in it, but diagonally. A handgun case fits perfectly. Good quality for the money--let's just hope I don't have to find out if it's really fireproof!
Customer Review: Nice Safe, Poor Packaging Summary: 4 Stars
I really like this safe, although I agree with the others, it really isn't a safe as the locking mechanism wouldn't keep out much more than a two year old. But, the case feels super sturdy and I think it would do the job in a fire. It is VERY heavy, but I kind of expected that.
Now, for the packaging... First, as I was opening the product box (i.e. not the brown shipping box), I noticed that it had been opened and re-taped at some point. When I opened the safe, everything inside was damp. Ick. Then, I turned it around and noticed one corner was smashed. As heavy as this thing is, dropping it square on one side could cause this kind of damage and Amazon just tosses it into a cardboard box with a little crumpled paper around it and sends it off. This packaging is not sufficient.
Customer Review: Second One Was A-OK Summary: 5 Stars
First unit shipped in it's store display carton without any packing and received badly damaged - it is heavy and obviously had been dropped on just about every corner, breaking the outer cover and exposing insulation.
Called Amazon, they wanted me to return USPS before sending new replacement unit. Explained this case weighted almost 40 Lbs. and no way was I shipping USPS and requested a UPS or FedEx prepaid shipping label. It was determined at that point to throw it in the garbage as it was going to cost more to ship it than I paid for it.
Amazon sent me replacement unit, well packed and received in perfect condition. Can't say whether it is actually fireproof and hope I never find out, but it is well constructed and well insulated, and did I mention heavy?
