Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert EL53W-2 Three Story 24-Foot Escape LadderCustomer Review: Won't Work Summary: 3 Stars
I'm returning this ladder, because my wall thickness at the window sill is slightly more than 13" -- and the ladder support brackets are slightly too small to fit over the window ledge. The specs say 6"-13", and I assumed it would work, since my wall thickness is around 12"; but there is one course of brick under each window that sticks out a little. So, be sure to measure your window sill before ordering.
Looks like a well made ladder -- too bad the brackets won't stretch open a little further.
Customer Review: Essential, but not easy Summary: 3 Stars
I have taken this product out once and let my son practice with it. That went reasonably well, though without practice, it would be very hard to do this right in an emergency. Repacking the ladder was a huge hassle. The directions were very clear, but didn't seem to apply to the same ladder that I was handling. I finally got it repacked and placed it in my son's room, but the difficulty in packing makes me hesitate to practice again, even though I know that would be a good idea.

I have not had the miss fortune of using the product. I say this becuause it is for one purpose, to use it as a fire escape option. I purchased this item using the free shipping method and arrive at my doorstep three days later. Great shopping experience!!!!!

Looked at it once, did not throw out the window though. Hope I never have to use. The hand rails did fit my window sill. Gives good piece of mind for a third floor escape.

I hope my son and family never need it, but it's better than buying a life insurance policy. If after the fact, who cares about, "What could I have done?"
